eating dissorder and OCD - April 21st 2010, 06:49 PM

so i went to the doctors today and they said i am on my way to having an eating dissorder and i have OCD. they have refered me to mental health counselling.

great!!! life gets better and better.

still feel proud of myself for getting the help! and i have an amazing best friend by my side seen as my boyfriend and parents are useless!!!

bring on the future i say??

You don't know about my past, and
I don't have a future figured out.
And maybe this is going too fast.
And maybe it's not meant to last,

Hey Sophie,

Just thought I'd let you know that I'm really proud of you . I know it might seem scary when a doctor says you may have something, but actually... finding out how you can be helped is the best part. And the first step to recovery.

You're probably going to get something called CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). It's a kind of therapy where you talk about feelings, emotions and it is proven very effective for OCD and some Eating Disorders.

I'm really proud of you, and I know you have a lot ahead of you, but you're awesome for getting help!

Hey there Sophie,

Wow! It is absolutely amazing that you managed to visit your doctor and talk to him about the issues that you're facing and it's wonderful that you've been referred to get the help that you deserve.
I am glad that you are proud of yourself for getting the help, I am proud of you too - it's very courageous of you. It's also wonderful to hear that you have the support of the people who love you.

Good luck with your counselling and with the future.

Hey there,

I am so glad that you got some help. That is always a big first step to take. It is scary but it is worth it in the end.

As for what they told you; remember that you can and will overcome it. OCD and ED do not have to ruin your life. And it doesn't make you different in the least. I have a friend who has OCD and is in recovery from an ED and you would never be able to tell. These are just diagnoses that we struggle with they do not control us or make us different. Always remember that.

Counseling will help a lot. But don't be afraid to be honest. If you struggle with the counselor you see let them know so that they can help you benefit from therapy. Therapy is what you make it and what you expect to get out of it.

Stay positive and if you ever need someone to talk to feel free to pm me.
