Unhappy Insomnia and deprestion? - June 14th 2010, 03:42 AM

Well, for the past few weeks, iv barely slept, maybe an hour of kinda sleep a night. Theres no reson, i just cant. i try and i just cant sleep or relax, even if im realy tired. so i stay up all night (thats why i post way too much O_o;; ) . example, its11:34 right now. i can fall asleep maybe an hour around 2 or 3. Also, i have depresion im not on medication or help at all for. so, would they be hand in hand? eather sleep deprivation makes me depresed or vice versa? and, anyone know how to get to sleep with insomnia? its seriously hurting me, i can barely move all day and have no energy, have horrible headaches, im allways dizzy, and everythings a foggy blur....help?

Hey There,
Depression tends to control a lot of things...including sleep patterns. Those with depression experience sleep troubles in one of two ways, either it's an insomiac version...or they just can't get enough sleep.

I was in the same situation a bit ago. I've asked my doctors about it and this is what they suggested to me: to take an over the counter sleep aid to help get to sleep, make sure that you don't indulge in caffeine after 3 in the afternoon, and don't eat food an hour before you go to bed. Try to relax as you lay down to go to bed. If you wake up in the middle of the night, a good idea is to keep a boring book by your bed and try to read some of it and it should put you back to sleep. Also another thing my doctor said would help insomnia would to be to listen to calming nature sounds as you try to fall asleep.

I must say though that I have depression and I was experiencing the same sleeping problems are you are and when I started getting meds for my depression my sleeping troubles settled down and I went from getting an hour of sleep a night to 7 hours a sleep at night. So maybe you should look into that and ask your doctor about medication for depression if that's something you may be interested in.

I really hope this helps a bit. Take care and PM me anytime if need be.

Those people who have been suffering from the depression are mostly the elderly person with the insomnia. The insomnia that occurs in major depression typically leaves patients with six or more hours of sleep per night.

No worries at all. I can really relate to how you're feeling and all the effect you are feeling with the lack of sleep. Just keep those tips in mind, and if they aren't working I strongly recommend that you go see your doctor and tell him or her about everything that's going on.
I hope you're well today. and PM me anytime.

It could very easily be linked to depression. I know a friend of mine suffered clinical depression for a while and had insomnia in the exact same way and would rarely sleep at all. And the lack of sleep causes a lack of energy and worsens depression. Is there anyone you could talk to about anything upsetting you, or anyone you could spend time with to take your mind off things? If there isn't or it wouldn't help it might be worth considering getting help and trying medication. I know my friend did and ended up being happier than she had been in a while.

I would definitely consider seeking some form of support or help for this anyway. Really hope it gets better for you soon and best of luck.

I have been diagnosed with insomnia since I was 4 years old I can't sleep at all unless I take pills. I also have been diagnosed with depresion and am on pills for that too. So if you have been diagnosed with both then pprobably not but if you haven't been then maybe it might not be insomnia. Anyways have you tried taking tylonal pm for sleeping?

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are
