Question Irrational thoughts. - July 12th 2010, 11:01 PM

So, I have these really irrational thoughts(a good amount of them that I'm not listing have to do with food) but they're not ALWAYS there... like so bad that even I know they're rediculous!

Like, I'm terrified whenever I eat ANYTHING... like a plum will make me gain like 5 pounds. Or like, if when I was 8 and my dad hurt me for the only time, if I stuck up for myself, I feel like he wouldn't be so mean to my mom now. I feel like if I ever stand up for myself against my mom, she'll die(I'm really afraid of this happening, because then we'll never make up...). I also feel like everybody will reject/hate me when I eat. I also feel like if I was better at everything I do, my mom would be less sick, because she'd feel less stress. I have other thoughts like these(I just can't think of them right now)... and these don't even include my irrational fears. I was just wondering, is this normal, or what? What can I do to stop them, or calm myself down..

these thoughts do seem irrational. Have you dicussed them with a doctor or your parrents? i think you should. if you always go over and over the same thoughts, you might be doing what is called rumination http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumination_(psychology) which is a sign of depression or nurotic disorders. If your thoughts are irrational to the point of thinking people will die, you might have a psychotic disorder. So yeah, definately talk to someone about it.
