Hearing and seeing things... - July 14th 2010, 11:52 PM

Nothing really positive or negative, but I've been hearing voices that aren't there, hearing people say things they're not, hearing them answer things opposite of what they actually answer, hearing my name being called, seeing people looking at me (but then people tell me they're not), seeing shadows when no one is around, etc.

So it's not like I'm hearing voices say they're going to kill me, but for example... Multiple times at work, especially on Monday, I was seeing co-workers whispering, pointing at me, glaring at me. But my mom was right near them, and my mom and I don't like our co-workers. So she would've told me if they said anything.

Anyone else know anything about this kind of thing? Sorry if I don't describe well enough, I just, don't know how to explain this all that well.

Just now I was walking through the house in the dark and thought I saw shadows and shuffling. I also get the whole people laughing and stuff thing. It's because I'm so damn paranoid and self concious. Obviously there's a difference between that and full on hearing clear voices. Does it sound anything like what you get?

Well yes, but also I've heard people call my name, have heard people talking when no one has been home (though not clear distinction, but muffled), and heard people walking around when no one else has been home. These things make me rush to the garage, thinking someone is breaking in, but thats never the case.

I've experienced all of this through out my life, less now though, but the hearing people in the house when there's no one is pretty common for me. I kinda...I don't know how I feel about religion and stuff but sometimes I put it down to a friend who passed away. I know that sounds odd.

Haha, I'm not Religious or Spiritual, actually. The whole thing just... has me more annoyed than anything. Its been going on for some time, don't know exactly how long, but I was inspired to post this when sitting in the livingroom with the family. Twice within an hour, I heard something totally off from what was said. Something with my mom earlier, I forget what, but then my brother asked my sister a question, she said YES, I swear I heard her say NO. And everyone looked at me like I was nuts when I said "Uhh, don't you mean Yes?".

See, it's kind of reassuring knowing others have seen things. However, the fact that you're all Spiritual and/or Religious, whereas I am not... I have no way to rationalize these things, whereas you guys (Sorry, you girls) do. Ya know?

Even though I am a Christian, I don't rationalize mine spiritually.

Things like this happen to me sometimes too. But not at the degree that you're experiencing it. Most of the time mine are really hard to shake feelings. It can get pretty creepy sometimes.

Hearing or seeing things when nobody is around, especially if it's in dim light, can be normal because you're being more aware of your surroundings and paying attention to sounds you'd usually ignore. Such as if you're in your house, the house may creak and settle quite a lot but you don't consciously perceive it as it's so common but when you may be afraid, these sounds get consciously perceived. It's like when I let my dog out when it's pitch-black outside and have to get him back in. I go out and the usual leaves falling, twigs snapping and such I'd usually ignore, I pay more attention to as I'm more alert trying to find my dog. I also know there are some animals that can harm him as these animals have done so to other pets before, so I'm concerned about that. He's had a show-down with a bloody big raccoon several times usually I've shone a flashlight to chase it off, or hear growling I know is not my dog (evidenced later by some huge shit piles made by a much bigger animal).

The other things you hear though are not subject to this factor so these I'd be more inclined to say are psychotic symptoms. From what you describe, they're mostly paranoid hallucinations and/or delusions.
