Bi-polar means your mood changes from Depressed to "manic" (extremely hyper to the point that it's hard to function.) over days or weeks. contrary to popular belief it's usually not a moment to moment mood change. It's treated with fluoxetine and in severe cases lithium and other mood stabilizers. It's also fairly rare, and a lot of clinical depression cases are misdiagnosed as Bi-polar. See a General Practitioner (family doctor) about it.

Prozac is not the usual way of treating bipolar disorder, in fact it's avoided if it can be as it can have negative effects on the recovery of individuals with this illness. Lithium is actually one of the first medications tried for bipolar. The only way to get an accurate diagnosis is to see a psychiatrist, and then get a second opinion from another psychiatrist.
I think a good rule of thumb is that if you think you have bipolar, you probably don't, I say this from experience, I have bipolar. Member since 2005 Diagnosed with Deuteranomaly (Colour blindness), Arthritis, Crohn's Disease (Immune Deficiency), and Bipolar Disorder.I currently take Azathioprine (Immunosuppressant), Lithium, Tegretol, and Ativan. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. |
