I highly doubt thats PTSD unless its about a certain event thats replaying in your head at night. It sounds to me as more of night terrors. and the only thing i know that helps with that is medication :/

Re: I suffer possibly PTSD ?! - September 2nd 2010, 10:25 PM

Hey there!
There are periods of times where I also have nothing but bad dreams. They usually come up when I'm stressed or when I'm worried for someone or of being hurt.
I usually just try to relax.
Music, certain friends, baths, tea... they all help me get less stressed.

If you know you aren't stress but still having these dreams, give it time.
And if not then, you should tell someone immediately!
If you ever need to talk never hesitate to PM me!

I wish I could tell you,

It could be PTSD but it is most likely not, unless, as the previous poster said, it is related to previous traumatic experiences.

If your life is full of anxiety and frustration day in and day out it can paint itself upon your dream world and work as a feedback loop to make things worse. If you are constantly stressed out it is hard for your mind to rest, even when you dream.

Depending on how old you are they could be night terrors. Generally those kinds of dreams fade when your reach adulthood and they are more common in younger children. I myself had night terrors when I was younger, except mine were more demonic than what you described.

I would suggest that you look up some lucid dreaming practices. There are many resources freely available on the internet related to it. If you can help calm and assure your mind before you go to bed it can help reduce the likelihood of having bad dreams. Additionally if you can enter a lucid dream, a dream in which you know you are dreaming, a lot of the frightening scenarios can seem less scary.

Re: I suffer possibly PTSD ?! - September 2nd 2010, 10:50 PM

Well, as mentioned above, are the traumatic dreams linked to an event in the past? Heh, when you messaged me about the dreams, I thought you said "Flashback Dreams", t'was half-asleep.

Anyways, if the traumatic dreams are linked to a past event, or even directly about a past event, then there is a possibility of it being PTSD, since a symptom of PTSD is Flashbacks, associated with something traumatic. Some war veterans get PTSD after being in the battlefield.

If you're just having traumatic dreams, about generalized things (like, nothing in particular), then there may be no issue at all. As the one user mentioned, it could be stress, worry, etc. causing you to have really bad dreams.

If its a reoccuring nightmare based on flashbacks of a personal traumatic experience, it may very well be PTSD. But, you should consult a professional about your feelings.

Well, you just have to continue working towards a proper diagnosis before treatment can take place.

I'm so glad to hear that you and your therapist are working together to get this situation sorted out. You're certainly on the right path to ridding yourself of these bad dreams, and I do hope that they go away soon. Take good care of yourself.

I'm closing this thread at the request of the original poster. (:
