Kleptomania -
September 5th 2010, 04:29 AM
It just occured to me that I suffer from Kleptomania.
My whole life I have been constantly stealing due to the rush up until last year. I didn't steal cars, tvs and money, I stole useless things like spoons, pens, tape, gluesticks, screws, batteries, etc. Not because I needed them but because of the rush I get out of it. I did some research on the subject and it seems to fit me: - Just before the theft, the patient experiences increasing tension. - At the time of theft, the patient feels gratification, pleasure or relief. - These thefts are committed neither out of anger or revenge nor in response to delusions or hallucinations. - The thefts are not better explained by Antisocial Personality Disorder, Conduct Disorder or a Manic Episode. I used to suffer from harsh social anxiety, I couldn't even say hello to my parents without freaking out. But over the years I worked on it. It still lingers a bit but it is a lot better. But as it got better, I noticed my urge to steal got a lot less. Since I picked up this new job where I don't talk to anyone and stuck in a dark room by myself for 8 hours during the night, then I go home and sleep during the daytime and afternoon, then head back out to work again not ever speaking to anyone, I find my theft urges coming back. Now on my breaks I find myself walking around offices stealing stuff like pens, glue, tape, paper clips and lead. Now I am starting to get worried because the problem is seeming to get bigger and I feel like stealing bigger things like computer monitors. Yesterday I physically had to hit my head to resist the urge to steal a computer monitor. Does anyone else suffer from kleptomania |

Why don't you speak to people, perhaps it may distract you from stealing?
I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

I kinda know what you mean. I use to shoplift from Wal-mart a few years ago. It started out as more of saving money on buying ramen noddles (yes..i shop lifted ramen noddles to save money...I was that poor), but it became more and more as I felt that rush just as i left the store and I knew i KNEW i got away yet again. I didn't even realize how bad it got until i had some freinds come over and I went for a trip over to wal-mart to "borrow" some snacks for the party. About a week later I got busted and that pretty much stopped me form doing it again for fear of getting arrested.
Basically...i have been there What kind of work do you do? are there any oppotunites for breasks, or even two minutes chatting with people? and you never know...it might be possible to hang out beteen shifts before or after work, you just need to get creative with your schedualing.
