Fantasy Games? - January 23rd 2011, 04:08 AM

My dad plays D&D with his friends at our house a lot. I don't know how to play but am a little curious, but my dad says he doesn't think it's a good idea for me to play fantasy games because with the my mental disorders I have trouble figuring whats not real from reality and it could contribute to that. I was just wondering if anyone who plays D&D or a similar reality game who has the same issues as me has difficulty with this or what your opinions on the subject it.

I've heard of D&D. It seems rather silly so you're not missing out on anything. Here's a demonstration on it!

Do you have a mental illness? Whether you do or don't, everyone is different. I sometimes have difficulties telling the difference between what's in my head and what's real because of my bipolar but generally what's in my head is not that influenced by other people or things. But that's just me.

Yes, I have several, one of which is Schizophrenia, so sometimes I have a LOT of trouble knowing what is real and what isn't.

You could always ask your doctor about it,i know I wouldn't have a problem. Do you tend to get obsessive about things? I know I used to and I did play games like that and get so obsessed to the point where I would start writing down every thought related to the game but that has not happened since I began on my medication.

Yes, I do get very obsessive. I think I am going to ask my case manager and my therapist and possibly my doctor to see what they think about it.

I dunno if this would help, but I'd asked the DM to make it so obscure that you know that physics in itself couldn't possible be able to do it?

I dunno. I've played a version of D&D that my friends made up and it seems to keep most of them out of trouble.
