Art therapy - April 17th 2011, 06:21 PM

Does anyone have any experience with art therapy? Has it helped you?

I've got my first session soon and i'm a bit worried although optimistic at the same time. I find it pretty hard to physically talk to people about stuff, but am hoping art may allow me to express myself a little more.

Thanks in advance x

Are you going to drawing classes?

I thought about it too. The way I see it is, you're entering into your own dream world and letting your mind take control of yourself. If you have music playing while you draw, it enhances the effect of being outside of your body and thus, away from your concerns, issues, anxiety, and etc. The focus and concentration required helps you take you away from the seat of your mind and into the act of putting pencil on paper.

It's much like running.

Anyway, don't feel worried about it. This therapy can only do you good.

Hi there

I think art therapy is a great idea for relieving your mind of stress and worry and drawing your concentration expressively onto a piece of paper or canvas. It helps you communicate your feelings in a way that is healthy and healing.
I'm taking art classes at my school, and I find that it takes my mind off of the weight of schoolwork and tests. When my teacher adds music, I find that it's very relaxing and helps me feel more comfortable and less anxious. So it's a great therapy overall and I hope you enjoy it
