Anyone else find being diagnosed frustrating -
May 10th 2011, 03:02 AM
I have a mental health issue that is still yet to be diagnosed... all I know really is it is some kind of mood disorder, well so they think. It feels like I am trying my hardest to overcome my issues and it feels as though I am getting no where fast.
I've been persuing this for the last 5 months, and the frustrating thing is you'd think I would have had more than one hospital appointment with a mental health specialist. Weeks and weeks ago they said the final say as to what happens to me would be down the the psychiatrists... and yet I've still heard nothing. I'm not suicidal at the moment, but have expressed there have been times when I have been. I'm finding this very hard to cope with, it took an awlful lot for me to go and seek help... and now it is taking ages for me to get help. My mood swings can be quite severe and I know they don't just affect me, they affect my family mainly, and it's not easy for them to see me feeling like this. I feel like I've done everything in my power to ask for help... and yet no one is giving me any. I guess I just want to know that I'm not alone in this. Thanks for reading. |

yeah ur definetly not alone. Ive had depression and anxiety issues since fourth grade. I went to therapy with like 7 different doctors up till ninth grade when they finally diagnosed me and started me on treatment. It was so fustrating. I really feel ur pain here. Hope they figure it out soon

I started showing symptoms of bipolar when I was 8 and didn't get diagnosed with bipolar until I was 20.so I feel your pain but the important thing is to not give up, advocate for yourself, and go seek the help instead of waiting for it to come to you.

You're definitely not alone. I have a complicated diagnosis, part of it made, part if it STILL in progress, and I've already been switched between 2 professionals. I went from this psychiatrist who was a bitch, to this therapist I see next week who seems like a dick. I've had 3 appointments, first one was in January.
Point is, mental illness sucks. You just gotta push the best you can to get the help you feel you need. |

They only properly diagnosed me when I spent a few months in hospital. Before that I didn't really have a proper diagnosis they had mentioned things to me but then said I was too young because I had to be at least 18 to have that diagnosis. You are not alone and it is so frustrating but please stick with it. Hopefully it will be worth it in the end and you will get the right treatment.

I definitely know how that feels. It took a long time for my bipolar disorder to get diagnosed, and as the days passed, I got worse. I was afraid that if I brought up the word "bipolar" they would think I wanted it or something (idk, my thoughts are irrational). But I finally did, and I'm glad. Persistance = results.
