Can living in a secluded place affect you mentally? - June 26th 2011, 10:47 PM

I've always wondered this because I have been living in this place that is out in the middle of nowhere all my life, and I am about to move out, but I think this place has drove everyone that lives in it mentally insane, because no one hardly has any experience/knowledge of the world outside this place. Town is 20 minutes away but its dead with nothing there. Its lonely here, and it gets to you emotionally pretty bad. It has affected my mom really bad it seems like, because she goes to my aunt, who has lived outside of this place many times,(but she came back because of my nanny, who stays ill) for help everytime she has a problem. I believe my nanny wouldn't be so ill, have depression problems, anxiety, etc. she would not have lived in this hell hole for so long. My mom has the same problems, and i've noticed that everyone in the whole neighbor has the problems as well, and they are also way too old fashion. Mom says she likes this place because its quiet but she doesn't understand that it is affecting all of us.

Well once your stuck in a ghost town, it's hard to get out. You get used to living away from civilization. I don't think it makes you crazy, I just believe that people are comfortable living sequestered from the rest of society. As far as your mother's depression, I just think it's natural to feel upset if a family member is falling ill wherever you live. I don't think where you live has anything to do with. It might seem confusing to you, but if your mother wanted to move she would.
