Borderline Perosonality Disorder, how to tell if you have it? - August 29th 2011, 08:44 AM

I'm sorry to bug all of you, but i was just wondering how to tell if you have BPD without professional help? I have been on a couple sites and i can't be sure if i am or not. But like i said, i know there are people that actually need advice, so don't be afraid to just skip over this.

There's no way to tell without professional help. Simple as that.

Why don't you want to talk to a professional about this?

Hey there,

Looking at symptoms and trying to diagnose yourself isn't going to be the best of ideas. Only a proffesional can diagnose you. Of course you could say 'i think i show symptoms', but to actually be diagnosed? No. Self-diagnosis can have bad consequences.
If you want to know or not, seek help for your problems. Someone professional could help you get through this. Asking for help is not always easy but it may be the best thing for you.

As has been said, you CAN'T know without seeing a professional.

Problem with mental illnesses is, symptoms overlap, symptoms can be vague, etc.

For example, people commonly assume that when they read certain symptoms, and they experience such, they're mentally ill. I've talked with people who occasionally feel hyper, and have assumed it's meant Bipolar Disorder. That's because, well, the symptoms online are far too vague.

You should definitely talk to a professional if you feel that something is wrong, since they can diagnose and treat problems.

Hey, I'm accually going to school to be a social worker, and the funny thing is whenever I've taking an abnomal psychology class or somthing that involves diagnosis, everyone in the class thinks they might have whatever we're talking about at the time.
If you think you may have somthing talk to your doctor about it. You need professional to look at your symptoms and struggles from a non judgmental view to get an accurate diagnosis. Another thing to consider is that most doctors and clinicians in the US won't diagnosis ANY personality disorder untill the person is at least 18 years old.
