nightmares -
September 11th 2011, 08:57 AM
I can't block those flashbacks of being raped. Today I have had body images for 4 times. Yesterday 5 times. I felt so filthy that I washed myself 3 times, but I still feel like dirt. I want it to stop...so hopeless.

Well, I'm sure you mentioned having PTSD, so have you been receiving some form of treatment (support group, therapy, etc.) for that? If not, you should be.
PTSD cannot be cured by medicine, it can ONLY be worked on with a mental health professional who knows how to deal with it. |

Yes, I have been put in therapy, but it is not working well.

I have PTSD and I have nightmares and flashbacks daily. The only way I can cope with them is to talk about them in detail to my therapist (b/c she knows how to deal with me if I get into a panic state). She also has me write my memories and how I feel about them. As Julz said, it can not be cured by medicine. Only by talking to a professional and having a coping mechanism to make the flashbacks and nightmares less real. And I have come up with a few ideas to remind myself that it's the "here and now" and what happened to me was YEARS ago and I am safe and sound now. I hope therapy starts working for you, and if it doesn't, you need to find someone who can help you. Good luck.

What kind(s) of therapy are you receiving? Individual/group? Something geared toward discussing the trauma and how it affected/affects you, or something that involves cognitive/behavioral exercises in order to change the way you think about and respond to the trauma?
Like the other members said, therapy takes time. PTSD is a notoriously difficult mental illness to treat; however, there are many people who recover. I am confident that you will as well. =) You have to be patient with yourself and with the people who want to help you, though. You may also need to set up additional appointments with your therapist, try individual AND group therapy, attend support groups throughout the week, etc. The important thing is to not give up on yourself, because no one is giving up on you. <3 ![]() HelpLINK Mentor : Article Editor : Disputes Committee Member : Performance Committee Member Forum Moderator (Relationships and Dating, Friends and Family, Mental Health, Education and Careers) Feel free to contact me anytime, about anything! =) "There's no cure for normal." - PSY |

I've tried individual and group therapy, and different types such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative therapy and psychodynamic therapy, etc. My parents regret for having me. They confessed that they considered abortion and were not ready to be parents. No one ever cherishes my presence.
