Arrow obsesive compulsive disorder? - September 27th 2011, 07:31 PM

everymorning after breakfats i brush my teeth, brush my teeth with listerien for 90 seconds and gargle for 10, brush them again after a few muintes because im afraid that my breath will stink later on in the day, then afew muintes later brush them again! yesterday i applied my deodorant 3 times because i dont want to stink during school! is this obsesive comulsive disorder?

We can't diagnose you with OCD only a licensed psychologist can. However, it kinda just seems like you are worried about hygiene which is normal and completely okay because no one wants to have bad breath, bad smelling armpits, etc. Everyone wants to smell good. :]

I sincerely doubt this qualifies as OCD. If you were constantly worrying about how your breath/body smelled (to the point where you avoided people, constantly wondered if they smelled anything bad, etc.), and you felt compelled to check your breath/body odor throughout the day (to the point where it impaired your ability to function normally, ex. spending your breaks in the bathroom re-applying deodorant), THEN I'd say you have something to discuss with a psychological professional. To me, however, it just sounds like you don't want to smell bad around your peers... which is a normal concern at 13 years old. Most people become much more self-conscious about how the people around them perceive them, and they want everything to be "perfect" when interacting with others.
