Who's In Your Support System? - November 30th 2011, 12:09 AM

Hey peoples

I'm just curious as to who contributes to what you feel is your support system (ie. family, friends, neighbors). You can be as specific as "Josh" or "My best friend" or more general. I'm also wondering WHY you feel like they are a part of your support system. What makes them "on your side"?

Thanks in advance!

Errr, seeing as I have no friends to really turn to. I would say... M. For the past 13 months he's been there for me and yeah, we've been on and off as boyfriend/girlfriend but he's told me time after time that he's going to be there for me and he has been since day one. Also, my family. They may not understand but they show me unconditional love and support with any decision I make and love me despite my mistakes and problems.

My family and my best friend provide some emotional support, but no one in real life knows how screwed up I am, so I really don't have a great support system
You lovely people on TH are a part of my support system, though

My best friend. She doesn't stop me from falling apart. She picks up the pieces when I do.
My mentor. She puts up with all my crap, which isn't the easiest thing to do.
My second mother. She's everything I wish my mom would be.
Everyone here on TH. You all show me that I'm not alone.

My best friend, my sis-in-law, my cousin, S, J. That's pretty much it.

I forgot about all the people here on TH. They have made a huge difference through encouragement and advice in my life recently.

Honestly, my family doesn't know anything, because one time I tried talking to my mother, it did not go well at all. O_o

So, my support system happens to be my boyfriend, pretty much. I have online friends, and my family doctor, but my biggest support, by far, would be my sweetheart boyfriend. He's been there for me through psychiatrist's appointments, fucked-up mood episodes, and everything.

He means everything to me. <3

I'm often part of the support system for others but mine include my family and friends. I also view myself as part of my support system because if I cant use the support or provide any for myself, then I'm in pretty shit shape.

My mother and I are ALWAYS at each other's throats, she tells me all the time what's wrong with me and how I'll fail at whatever I try. She destroys my self esteem, so I could never go to her.

My number one support system is my wonderful boyfriend. My friends comfort me, but he always listens to my rants, no matter how long they may be, and comforts me. He's not particularly good with words, but he does his best to make me feel better and when I'm really down he'll bring me over to his house and cuddle with me for hours, and we just talk and enjoy being together. He always supports me and comforts me, and I love him to death.

My other support system is my drama teacher; I graduated last year, but we are still in touch. She was always like a second mother to me and I still see her often. She always has good advice to give, especially when my mother has me feeling horrible about myself. All I have to do is call, email, or text her and she's ready to listen and reply.

Pretty much everyone here on TH. I've tried talking to my friends/boyfriend/even parents about what I'm going through but my problems seem to just scare everyone away. No one wants to be friends with the girl who has issues. So I just keep everything to myself until I can unload it here on TH, where people don't judge and most can understand what I'm feeling.

Myself. Don't get me wrong, I have friends, but they don't really know about my problems while I know almost all of theirs. When I'm talking about myself, I tend to talk a lot without really saying anything, because I believe that the less they know about me, the less chance they have of hurting me. Kind of irrational, I know.

Everyone on TH, of course, just because everyone here cares, my friend P, and then my guidance counselor since she's actually trying to help me.

Thumbs up Re: Who's In Your Support System? - December 6th 2011, 07:37 PM

My brother.

It's weird because he's 3 years younger than me, but it feels like the other way 'round most of the time.

I can pretty much tell him anything. He is really accepting and doesn't judge me too harshly. He's not afraid to tell me if I've done something dumb, but won't hold it against me; he just wants me to learn from it.

Also, he seems to really care/worry about me. Like he asks me if I'm okay throughout the day and if I go out for the night, he will text me to make sure I'm safe.

Plus, we just kind of... connect. Like I can be explaining something really badly and he'll know what I'm on about. Also, we have similar opinions on life and the world and, considering they are quite different to the views of the masses, it's nice to be close with someone who shares them.

Oh and he gives great, mature, well-thought-out advice.

He's basically just awesome.
(But don't tell him that. )

My friends from here. The PSO and sometimes the head of sixth form. My CAMHS worker. My doctor and nurse. And I have seen the school nurse.

Maybe sometimes I feel more alone that I actually am.

Re: Who's In Your Support System? - December 7th 2011, 02:03 PM

My boyfriend, Jeff. He's been here for me since the day we met and never gets tired of helping. He says as long as I don't give up, he won't either. Sometimes he doesn't understand how I feel so I go to...
My mom. She knows everything about me. I tell her everything. She listens (I think). Even if she doesn't, she stays on the phone while I rant until I figure out the problem myself.
My friend Zach. He understands me more than most people. He never judges and he listens. He sacrificed a required class once to come hang out with me when I was in a bad spot. And the teachers let him make up the test
And of course, my counselor. He seems to actually care. Even gave me his cell number to call if nobody else was available for me to talk to. Have not used it, but it's still great and shows he cares about helping rather than just getting money from being at the office.

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

that's just another reason I love you...
