Embarrassed - February 11th 2012, 04:23 AM

Any one embarrassed when they see a therapist? Any one embarrassed that your parents know you have therapy? Any one embarrassed they have to take meds? I ask this because I am }: and no its not becasue I want to be normal its just I feel embarrassed. My friends dont know anything about my mental health my disorders me seeing therapist nothing. Maybe some friends or peers know a little like super little but really nothing and nothing into detail. When I see therapist I feel I can be completly my self and I feel loved.

My email chrissey30@ymail.com I love to help people and will be a therapist one day.

Hey there,

I'm not so much embarrassed with seeing the therapist anymore. How long have you been going to them? Maybe it will just take time getting used to the idea of going before you can stop being embarrassed about it. Because, in reality, it is nothing to be embarrassed about at all. People seeing a therapist is quite common, and it is really good that you are going. It's really good to have someone out there to talk to, and it is okay that you are going.

As for your friends not knowing, they don't have to know if you are not comfortable with them finding out. The ones that you DO end up telling should be the ones that you are close to, but only if you want them to, because they can end up being a good support system. But, you don't have to tell them if you don't want to.

I admit that I do find it a little awkward still that my parents know I am going to therapy. If you want, talk to your parents and see how they are actually feeling about you going to therapy, maybe that will clear up some of the embarrassment. If anything, I am sure that you are getting the help that you need and have someone there to talk to.

I hope this helps, and stay strong! Going to a therapist seems to be a really great thing for you, and it's worth it to keep going.

Sing, the last thing on your mind
The last word on your breath
I'll be the one to keep you
I'll keep you at your best
