Did was win the battle? or lying to me? - May 16th 2014, 04:35 AM

As i said before i have a 'online' girlfriend that has a ED for a few years. I have helped her fight it and the first week or two was hard. Its been a month now and we don't talk about it as much anymore. But i make a point to sneak it asking her if she ate, and things. It seems she is eating a lot, snacks mostly but more seem to eat when she is hungry. With out asking she tells me she eating. I asked her the other day how the everything was going with food. She replaced "great, eating feels normal". i took that as a good sign. Now my question is, am i getting my hopes up? is this normal doing recovery to be good at the start and then fall back in to it? If she is eating i don't want to bug her about stuff. Should I be happy and just stop worrying? It just seems it all moved so far. 4-5 weeks in. I know she has 'feeling fat' days and still tells she is fat (but is is skinny).

Eating disorders are typically something that somebody deals with for their entire life, even after full recovery. They'll always still have thoughts, and triggers can always happen. Think of it like cancer. Currently, she is "in remission" so she is not showing ED symptoms and is doing well; however, it doesn't mean that it can never come back. It's not bad that you're getting your hopes up, but this in no way means that she will not have another bad day ever again, nor that she won't ever relapse. If you plan on staying with her longterm, you need to always be supportive and not expect but also not be surprised if she relapses. It's part of the recovery process, and it's important that as part of her support system, you understand that.
