It's getting harder - October 24th 2014, 08:57 PM

The longer I go without purging the harder it get's not not do it. I am almost a month free of restricting and purging but it's so god damn hard that I just want to give up and go back to restricting and purging. I just don't know anymore.

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

Hey there,

You are doing a great job and I think you should remind yourself of that. Going without restriction and purging can be a really hard thing to do but the longer you go I think the easier it will start to get. What are some of the tools you were taught to use in treatment? If you can utilize those tools it might help you to some extent. Maybe make a list of reasons not to go back to your old habits. I know when I am struggling with self harm or something like that I will make a list of reasons not to and it helps. So, the same thing might work with purging and restricting.

Are you following a meal plan? I know that when I am really struggling with purging and restricting I will go on a meal plan and that helps with the urges. If I know what I am going to eat and when I am going to eat it, it helps me feel more balanced and it also helps with the urges.

If there is anything that I can do to help please feel free to message me.

I just wanted to say that I am proud of you for going that long without restricting or purging. That is an accomplishment you should be extremely proud of. I don't know if you are familiar with the saying "it is going to get worse before it gets better", but it is true. It is going to get worse before it gets better. That is how life works. Recovery isn't supposed to be easy. If recovery or life in general was easy, then life wouldn't be exciting at all. We are going to go through rough patches, but what we learn through them is what makes things worth while.

I think you may want to see a therapist/counselor as you seem to be going through a bit of a tough time. I know it may be scary, but seeing one is going to be really helpful for you.
