Starving myself? - June 22nd 2015, 10:54 AM

I'm heavy for my age and I hate it. I'm scared of eating. I just ate breakfast and now I want to puke it back up. I have made a choice in going to starve myself. I can't deal with this weight anymore.

I actually puked. I didn't force. I kept saying "I'm too fat I need to puke!"

Hi there.

I am sorry you're going through this but it really is great that you have come to teenhelp for some support with it.

I can't so I totally relate to what you're going through because everybody has different feelings and different experiences but I do have EDNOS and Bulima so can understand where you are coming from. From what you have said it sounds like you want to starve yourself because you are overweight. Is that right? For one, I would ask for a medical check at your doctors to see whether you are actually overweight or whether it's in your mind (Im not saying it is but sometimes it can be) because they can weigh you and its also someone to talk too. But if you are overweight, you could ask to be referred to a dietitian who can help you get a healthy eating plan going and get some exersize in there too so that you can lose weight in a healthy way instead of you starving yourself which can lead to so many physical health complications and can leave your mental state in a bad place.

Purging isn't going to be the answer either. Again, it can lead to physical health problems. I have to take tablets now because of purging so much and had to have many bloods tests done which was horrible. But now I'm trying to eat a healthy diet and have a healthy exersize routine which is helping and I am actually being referred to a dietitian too. When we purge, our bodies actually cling on to the calories that we have already taken in, so you don't lose the calories when you do purge. Does that make sense?

But don't be alone in this. Counselors, doctors, eating disorder specialists, psychiatrists, dietitians, friends and family can all help and even just talking about it can be helpful so don't suffer in silence and be afraid to reach out for help, okay? I know this is really hard but you are beautiful and wonderful the way you are, you don't need to damage your body to become a better person and like I said, if you need to lose weight, do it in a healthy way because that's the best way to go around. And when you have urges to starve or purge, remind yourself that eating (an average amount) is normal or distract yourself and focus your mind on something else. You can get through this but don't be alone and remember we're here for you.

Take good care of yourself.
Jessie

Re: Starving myself? - June 22nd 2015, 07:26 PM

Hiya,

I've suffered (and still suffering) from anorexia (undiagnosed) myself. I was told I was overweight and I started starving myself and I loved it. But then, my body went into survival mode and I started on binges that would make me cry every night and I'm nearly back to my original weight in the time of a month! It is not fun, starving results in dizziness, hunger pains that are so bad that you can hardly walk or stand up, you feel tired and moody and you can't concentrate.

So here I am begging you NOT to starve yourself, eating fruit during the day and then a chicken salad or something like that would be the best thing because you're eating healthily and still providing nutrients for your body to live off. I get it if you don't want to see the doctor, I didn't but make sure you stay away from pro ana sites and "thinspo", it really doesn't help. Just eat healthily and drink water or healthy drinks and you will feel better. That's a promise.

Please PM me if you want more advice, you can do this

Hey
Like the other two users, I also have problems with my eating and really it's almost like a trap. It's unhealthy and addictive. If you really want to loose weight, try eating a balanced diet and doing a hours exercise a day. There are lots of websites which have different ideas for healthy meals and fun exercises.
Also dieting is bad, even more if your still growing. It can do all sorts of horrible things to your body and can sometimes even lead to more weight gain.
Not eating might seem like the easy way out but it really isn't a good idea at all.
PM me if you need any help xx
