I am officially confused - January 14th 2017, 12:56 AM

Hi everyone


Basically I had an eating disorder until august I was shit scared to eat lots of food but I went on hoilday to barcelona and was forced fed ice cream but now my fear of food is gone well I still have the fear but not even close to as much as I use to have when it comes to food how can the fear just vanish? I haven't been through any treatment or anything it's so weird if you asked me to try and maintain I would not be able to do it because I still have the discorded thoughts but binging as been and often occurrence can someone with experience in ED sides of things be able to give me their opinions please?

Hey There,

Eating disorders are different for everyone. Some people who where anorexic become Binge eaters, or bulimics. It never is just one thing. I had EDOS but was mostly anorexic but not at the weight to qualify but then I became bulimic. Just because you had an specific ED doesn't mean you can't switch.

If you are binging it sounds like you probably still have an eating disorder just a different one.

I honestly don't think your fear vanished, i think it just changed into something more. Because Binging you can have a fear of food still.

It is possible for one ED to turn into a different ED. I am struggling with two different ED, which are polar opposites. I would suggest talking to someone, because managing it on your own will only make it worse or your recovery a lot slower. If you ever need to reach out to us, don't hesitate. Perhaps the holiday helped ease the stress. Then eating in a completely different environment, on holiday, less stress, the brain began to associate feeling good with eating food, so the fear subsided.

Then returning to home, brain now sees old environment it associates with being afraid to eat food, and fear returns.

Meditation can help weaken fear.

Hi

I don't think there is a clear cut answer to this which will explain how you felt about food and your eating habbits to how you feel about food now and how your eating habbits or now. It might last forever, it might come back. It might be worth getting some support for help on your ED though so you can work through this and the emotions that have come with it. Do you think you could seek help? I know it can be really scary but it can also be very beneficial to many people. It might be worth having a think about it.

For now, I am glad things are looking up for you and hope more than anything that this continues for you. You deserve the best. Remember we're always here for you too! You are never alone.
