What can I expect? - February 6th 2017, 02:04 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of eating disorders, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

*Also triggering: abuse*

I know in other places on TH I've mentioned that I'm going to a residential treatment facility. For those unfamiliar with residential it's where someone goes to get treatment for a more extended period of time than being in a psychiatric hospital. They also generally have more types of therapy and more privileges than you get on a psychiatric ward, too. I've found one I like and I'm waiting to hear from admissions so I can arrange the details of my arrival. I'll probably be there between two and four months, possibly longer or shorter depending.

Based on my answers the person conducting my intake interview said I definitely qualify for some of their ED program. I told her I have purged and restricted before, as recently as a little over a month ago, and also that I am a compulsive eater, which I've been doing a lot more of. I was restricting a lot in December but then I was sexually assaulted. After the assault I purposely started eating more in an effort to gain weight because I didn't want anyone to think I was attractive and therefore wouldn't want to assault me again. I eat even when I'm not hungry and I generally eat junk food. I'm very ashamed of it and I judge myself harshly because my ED thoughts tell me I should try and do anything to lose weight, not gain it. I'm disgusted with myself but I feel I really need to protect myself by gaining weight.

What can I expect from an ED program? I know mealtimes are separate from the clients in other groups; we have to eat earlier. I also know there are specialized groups. I imagine they'll set up a meal plan for me and I'm really nervous about that because I won't want to eat all of the food they will give me and I'm really scared they'll force me to eat. I also know they do weigh-ins almost every day. Will they force me to eat? Will they still allow me to lose weight, since I am overweight? What other types of things are specific to an ED program?

Just wondering if anyone knows.

Love breaks us apart
The power to conquer here in our hearts
Enduring and sacred
Eternal as time
For love, love alone will conquer all

SO when I was at my treatment center...we had to sit with a BHS at a special table for people with Eating disorders while everyone else got to eat whereever. some places yo can't go to the bathroom for an hour or half hour after you eat, other places you have to have a staff with you so they can here if you are doing anything. Also insurances tend to cut you're stay short because they don't think you need it anymore if your doing good so I just want you to be aware of that because you say it will prob be around 2-4 months I've seen peoples insurance cut after a week. So their isn't really a given set time unless you are self-paying.

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are
