Question I don't know if this is serious - June 26th 2019, 05:24 PM

Lemme preface this: I do not think I have an eating disorder. I have never been diagnosed, I eat normally most of the time.

But, I'm also really scared of gaining any weight at all? Like, I would honestly like to lose weight, but I know that I'm already borderline underweight, so that would be unhealthy, so I really just don't want to gain any weight.
I also almost always skip breakfast, and occasionally skip lunch. I regularly find myself not wanting to eat, despite knowing that I'm hungry, or even being somewhat in pain because of that.

I guess I'm asking if this is normal? Or something to watch out for? Idk if I gave enough details, so ask any questions you need to. Thanks!

I would say it's something to keep an eye on. Obviously we are not professionals and cannot diagnose you in any way, but in my opinion any time one is notably hungry and still pushes themselves to skip meals is a warning sign that something may be heading in an unhealthy direction. It's common to be afraid of gaining weight. We live in a society that routinely shames people, especially women, for doing so. I would suggest focusing not so much on weight but instead on HEALTH. To be healthy you have to eat at regular intervals during the day. It's just how the body works. That can be a really, really daunting and scary thing when you're scared doing so will make you gain weight, but it's an important thing to do.

If you really want to focus on health while being conscientious of weight I would talk to your doctor or a nutritionist. Do NOT engage in fad diets, as they are all pretty much bullshit. You doctor knows your health and your body best and will be able to guide you. It may mean eating when you don't want to and that's okay. Start small. Take baby steps. Things will come more naturally as time goes on.
