Eating Disorders In TV shows - February 1st 2009, 06:07 PM

What do you think about how Eating Disorders are portrayed in a TV Movie or Series?
For example:
Emma’s Anorexia, in Degrassi, the Next Generation.
Miranda’s eating disorder, in Lizzy McGuire.
Jessie’s Anorexia, in once and again season 1.
Lexie and Jenny’s portrayal of Anorexia in the movie, a secret between friends.
The one girl, (forgot her name) in the movie, sharing the secret.

The movies seem more real to me, because it really shows what can happen to someone who struggles with Anorexia, Bulimia, or other eating disorders. The TV shows, well… the storylines don’t last long, and then before it even begins, it’s forgotten.

Simple, I don't watch them. I don't even know who you're talking about.
I find other shows to watch. One's that aren't so triggering.

I think they're good for awareness but they shouldn't overdo it.

They are Tv shows or characters that had played someone with an Eating Disorder. I am sorry if this triggers anyone, please remove if it does so.

I've not seen tv shows that have characters with ED's in, but Ellie has an ED in Girls Under Pressure. I thought that the bit where she had her ED was acurately written, not glamourising it or condeming her for having it, but her recovery was too easy. I wish it was like that for me
