Question Does it even work? - April 8th 2010, 12:18 AM

Do crash diets actually help you lose weight?? I have heard many things... One of my friends went on one and lost alot of weight and only gained a really small amount of it back, but another friend gained all the weight he lost back in only two weeks. And some people also say it affects your matabolism and makes it not work as good... so can anyone tell me what a crash diet actually does??

If you need to loose weight fast, just do more excersize.
Three square meals a day. More veggies and fruit, less carbs. Less fatty meat. Etc etc etc.

Crash diets do.not.work.

I'm not really a professional, but I honestly think it depends on how the person loses weight. Some people, its really hard, and others, its really easy. My mom couldn't lose weight for a long time after having me...then she started dancing and using 'slim shots' (a liquid portion control that reduces your appetite) and she lost a ton of weight. She did numerous excerices besides that, and it didn't work. A lot of the times it depends what you eat too, meaning some foods, as I've been told, can make it hard for you to burn fat. And it also depends on how fast your matabolism is. As for crash diets, with some people it may work, but it is extremely dangerous. You can run into health problems later on in life. SO be careful, try to choose a healthy route first

Hey there,
Like Hannah said, crash diets are not good. Losing alot of weight in a short time frame is unhealthy. These diets focus solely on losing weight quickly, and most of them are only to be followed for a short period of time. Most crash diets will deprive your body of certain food groups, necessary calories, and proper vitamins/minerals.

The reason why these kinds of diets don't work for people is because once the diet is over, they go back to eating normally again. Crash diets have a short time frame because they restrict too many things that your body needs to be healthy.

Basically, they're a quick fix for losing weight. They are unhealthy and can really cause alot of damage to your body. The best solution to losing weight/getting toned and staying healthy isn't a quick fix. It takes time and should happen over a longer period of time. A balanced diet and regular exercise is definitely a better solution.

I hope this helped! Take care. :]

Ok thankyou guys This really helped! but can you help me on something else... I have gotten to the point that i really just don't want to eat anymore at all. It's like i still get hungry sometimes but everytime i do eat something i feel sick and guilty because i did eat. How do i get over that feeling because i really don't want to hurt my body...???

Im just going to say, yea they do make you lose the weight, but you lose so many other things AND people, and you do so much damage to your body, its just not worth it. That's really how I think about it.

And about your other problem, well It's really hard to train your thoughts, I still struggle every day with that, when I am hungry I wil have little conflicts with myself as to what the best option would be, how much food i've already had and that. You just have to replace the "Im so hungry but i MUST NOT eat" thoughts with the "Im so hungry I need energy, im going to get myself some food" thoughts. Do you get where im coming from?

According to my doctor the best thing to do is eat like five small meals (toast/fruit/small sandwich etc) because it keeps your metabolism going, and won't make you feel sick. I get the sick feeling like you do, but apparently you just have
keep trying and your stomach will "learn" ... good luck
