Chest Pain? - April 28th 2010, 04:18 AM

I've been bulimic for almost a year. Now I'm purging or fasting almost every day. I sometimes have chest pain randomly in the middle of the day. Could this be related to the bulimia? Has anyone ever experienced this?

As I don't have bulimia, I haven't had an experience like that, but yes, I would attribute this to bulimia.

When you vomit, a lot of pressure gets put on your heart, lungs, esophagus and stomach. Usually, people don't vomit enough for this to be a problem, however the repetition of forced vomiting can cause a lot of problems with these organs. I know it's hard, but I recommend you talk to someone about your bulimia and get treatment before you seriously hurt yourself. If this goes too far without being taken care of, you can die.

When I used to purge, I used to get chest pains. But that doesn't mean it's okay. If you are having chest pains, you should really go see your doctor. Chest pains are never a good sign or something to be taken lightly. Please talk to your doctor, and think about telling an adult you trust about your eating disorder. You don't have to do this alone.

Your eating disorder may be causing strain to your heart, whether it is due to malnutrition or an electrolye imbalance. You should get yourself checked out since chest pain can be a sign of a serious problem.
