Hard to breathe - May 15th 2010, 11:36 PM

Why is it hard to breathe when you quit eating? I am sure that sounds stupid, but it has been a few days since I have ate anything and my chest feels very heavy, why?

Hmm well I am not sure, as I never had this feeling even at my worst. That may be quite dangerous, if you are having trouble to breathe. You should speak to someone about that.

We are not medical professionals. If you are having chest problems, or problems breathing, you really should talk to your doctor, for they will be able to help you better than we will.

When you deprive yourself of the much needed nutrients that are contained in the foods you would normally eat, your body doesn't function as it should. Restricting causes you to feel weak, irritable, dizzy, and all sorts of lovely. You risk endangering your health by doing so, which might explain the trouble breathing. Your body can't function properly when it isn't being fed.

That being said, you should see your doctor if you are having any pains or difficulty breathing. Only then can you get an accurate diagnosis and the proper treatment needed, if any.

Here
is a site relating to eating disorders. The information may be of interest, you should consider giving it a look. :)

Hey there--since you've received basically all the information we can give you, and the answer to your question, I'm going to close this. I think everyone agrees that you really need to see your doctor--breathing isn't something to take lightly (!) and I want you to make sure you are medically okay. Hang in there and take good care of yourself. If you have any questions, you can feel free to PM me
