Getting help? - February 11th 2009, 06:34 PM

So I've come to the conclusion that I'm more Bulimic. Recently I have binged and purged so much more, or atleast tried to but sometimes I can't bring up anything except blood. I've been taking more laxatives, and I've found out that recently by body...doesn't work without them... I'm tied between wanting help and not wanting it. Part of me really wants to get better, sick of being sick...but then I'm scared of eating 'normaly', scared of being a 'normal' weight.
I don't know how I would get help, I just know that my mum can't know about this. Do GP's have to tell your parents if you're under 18? I heard that they didn't but I'm not sure...ahh this is silly, I can't get help, I'm stuck in this hole forever.

I'm not *exactly* sure about the UK but in the US there is a thing called doctor/patient confidentiality. So regardless of your age, they can't tell your parents anything. I think it's really great that you want help and that is such a HUGE step in your recovery. Talk to your GP and they should know how to help you find treatment.
Good luck with everything. :]

hey don't be afraid to seek help! you're 17 and i think that they should keep your confidentiallity as long as you ask for it. don't let fears like this deter you from getting the support you need k? and recognizing you have a problem is always the first brave step of all. (: i can relate to how you feel about wanting to stay like this, for it is a world you know, but you're destroying yourself...
take care and good luck! let us know how things go..

Sapphire,

I can't confirm or deny your diagnosis, no one here can. If you think you are bulimic you need to see a doctor. Binging, purging, and abusing laxatives aren't healthy. You'll damage your body, and you deserve to take care of yourself.

I know it's scary, I do. But it'll get scarier, as you get sicker, and I really hope you'll get help now instead of waiting. You don't have to do this alone.

I do believe that unless you are homicidal or suicidal, a doctor cannot break confidentiality, even if you are under 18. You CAN get help. This isn't something you have to suffer through forever.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Someday I will be strong enough to lift not one but both of us.
I told you to be patient
I told you to be fine
I told you to be balanced
I told you to be kind
