Catching it early - June 15th 2010, 09:47 PM

I'm catching this early. I've noticed how obsessed I get with my weight and my height. For example, I tend to put on tight clothes and then I look in the mirror for hours. I'm not skinny in the least, I'm 5'1" and [Edited by Waffle.] pounds, but i've been only eating fruits, skipping breakfast, and avoiding eating even when I have severe hunger pangs. At one point, my grandmother and my mom both commented that I looked as if I had lost weight and said I looked good, this being after I hadn't eaten in two days. I eat tons of junk food and then I get really guilty and try to avoid eating for a few days to make up for it. I've become obsessed with exercise such as rollerskating, biking, walking, swimming, etc.

Anyway, I just want someone to pull me back to reality. I feel like my whole view and thoughts are twisted.

Hello.

I understand how all of that must make you feel. It can get quite horrible and I'm really glad you're recognizing you need help of some sort. I think before anything gets worse, you should talk to somebody such as your mother, a friend, or a counselor, or somebody else. You shouldn't feel guilty for eating, I mean, to an extent. I don't necessarily endorse diets, but sometimes you break it and you'll feel guilty (but that's slightly different, as diets should be supervised by a physician or nutritionist), but you should have an adequate relationship with food. You should be able to eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full. You also shouldn't be skipping meals, and you probably know this, it isn't a good way to lose weight. It's extremely unhealthy. Like I said, talk to somebody and things will get better. You don't have to live like this.

Good luck with things.

Thanks for the reply, Apollo I was planning to talk with my doctor to help set up some sort of eating plan and exercise routine that will work for me.
