Evil Wal-Mart Shoppers -
October 11th 2010, 02:24 AM
When I go to Wal-Mart with my parents, they get stopped all the time by adult friends. Often times, they talk about me. On a couple occasions, they have made the statement "She has filled out."
I have an ED, so I think they mean to tell me I have gained weight. |

Seeing as you are 14 years old, a lot of people say "filled out" to mean that you're going through puberty. I doubt they're trying to tell you that you're gaining weight.
When you have an ED, your brain turns everything into mixed messages about your weight. If they are talking about your weight, and they are your parents friends, assuming your parents know about your ED they probably mean it in a good way, as in you are starting to look healthier. It would be a great deal more considerate of them, however, to not say it in front of you like you're not there. I agree with Jillian, they probably just mean that your body is changing, getting natural curves, not that you've gained weight. EDs mess with your mind to turn everything into a negative statement, but that's not negative at all. Maybe you could ask your parents to not talk about you like you are not there? That might help a bit.

I agree with whats been said above, I think it was meant in a more compliment way. You probably just looked more grown up to them. Usually "filled out" is a good thing
I wouldn't worry, I'm sure you don't like you've gained weight!
"'Colie, you should never be surprised when people treat you with respect. You should expect it.' I shook my head. 'You don't know--' I began. But, as usual, she didn't let me finish. 'Yes,' she said simply, 'I do know. I've watched you, Colie. You walk around like a dog waiting to be kicked. And when someone does, you pout and cry like you didn't deserve it.' 'No one deserves to be kicked,' I said. 'I disagree,' she said flatly. 'You do if you don't think you're worth any better...'" |

I am not sure what you said your weight changed from as it has been edited out, but all teenagers put on weight around the time they start puberty, how else do you think we get breasts! Also, the part around our reproductive organs gains natural fat (NOT bad fat) to protect that part - which is why women have wide hips. In the end, it evens out and you are your natural weight. Now I am sure your natural weight is very much normal, and the thing is, our appetite keeps us at that weight.
By your parents saying you have filled out, they probably mean you are looking better, they wouldn't have said it otherwise and they certainly wouldn't have meant it in a bad way. I am sure you look absolutely fine and you should try hard not to worry
