Question Not eating?? - December 20th 2010, 04:47 PM

I dont eat breakfast and rarely eat lunch, if so its like an apple or something. Then i'll eat a small dinner. Once in a while i'll eat lots, but feel sick.. I have this friend who worries i have an eating disorder, but i dont think i do.... do i? I'm simply not hungry.

Oh yeah, sometimes when hanging with a big group of friends or family i force myself to eat, but always feel sick in the end.

Eating several small meals is okay, eating just one is not. Your body needs food, even if you don't feel hungry. Not eating itself is not an eating disorder. There are other factors that make it an eating disorder. If you are just not hungry, you might have to try to get yourself to eat occasionally, as your body needs it. You might also want to talk to your doctor, because not being hungry can be a sign of other things, besides just being full. Hang in there hun.

I'm the same exact way. Like, I never eat breakfast, rarely eat lunch, and have a very small dinner. I eat a few snacks throughout the day; and that's about it. One of my friends really worries about me, because just a year ago I legit was alwaysss eating (thank God for fast metabolism lol). But now I just.. don't. I don't think I have an eating disorder; because I don't not eat because of self image problems, or a hatred of food, etc. It doesn't really sound like you have ED either, but there is probably something up causing you to get feel sick from eating. talking to your doctor is a great idea; ignore your mom. she most not realize the extent of things.

My_Hero is correct. Ignore your mother's insistence that you shouldn't tell the doctor and just tell them. Loss of appetite and nausea can both be symptoms of something bigger.
I hope everything works out for you!

If you're not purposely making yourself not eat then I wouldn't consider you to have an eating disorder. I always skipped breakfast and hardly ate lunch, even though I knew it was bad for me...I simply was just not hungry at that time though, not because I thought it would help me lose weight or stay thin.

I agree with bringing it up with your Dr, just in case there is a physical reason for losing your appetite, but I remember being in HS and it happened a lot where someone would say this person or that person has an ED just because they were thin or didn't eat a huge amount. It's typical HS drama.

You know your body, so don't overeat because everyone else does. Try to start to eat a small breakfast and a nice lunch though, it might balance your appetite out.

Hmm... I don't necessairily think it's an eating disorder if you're not intentionally trying to lose weight. It probably is a good idea to talk to your doctor though.
This is actually how my ED started- I lost lots of weight without doing anything, and it just went from there.

Hope it's going alright!
