Cotton wool :| -
January 7th 2011, 09:22 PM
I've been watching a documentary about anorexia, other eating disorders and size [Edited] models. One doctor said on the documentary that she had heard a few cases where a few models were eating cotton wool to get rid of hunger pains.
I'm just wondering, how dangerous is that? I'm not in any way going to consider doing this (I highly discourage other people from trying this either) I'm just curious :| They didn't talk about it much on the documentary. ![]() |

I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but this reminds me of an eating disorder named 'Pica'. Now, eating cotton wool has more or less the same effect on humans as a cat having furballs.

I'd say its pretty darn dangerous. However supermodels seem to be willing to do anything to stay super skinny :/ Its a bit scary to see how severe our society has become.

This is an awful, awful idea.
From a biochemistry perspective, cotton wool is entirely cellulose, and therefore entirely digestible. You know how trictillomaniacs (people who obsessively pull out and eat hair) can get trichobezoars, huge accumulations of hair in the stomach that can seriously block regular digestion? Yeah, you'll get that with eating cotton wool too, but like 10x worse. (Not to mention, it tastes awful, even if you cover it with chocolate. Catch-22 reference.) "Want to know a secret?

Whether you are smart or quiet or impossibly in love with your best friend, someone out there cherishes your smile and gets butterflies when you walk into a room. Someone out there can't stop thinking about you. You Are Beautiful. Don't ever believe differently." If you ever want someone to talk to, about absolutely anything, feel free to inbox me! ![]() |

Bad idea. Cotton wool will mess up your stomach, it will collect and just, no. It's very dangerous. It won't digest right and it can make you really, really sick.
