They call me anorexic - July 15th 2011, 08:21 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of eating disorders, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I'm a girl, 13 years old.
Everyone calls me anorexic, I'm not though... I'm too fat to be anorexic.
I'm 4ft8 and I'm (edited) kg.
I'm fat, they say I'm being stupid
They say I'm anorexic.
Recently someone pulled my mum aside and asked if I had an eating disorder.
Yes, I do watch what I eat, that's because all I see is fat.
But I'm not anorexic.

Help me?

Anorexics usually think that they are larger than they really are. When looking in the mirror they might see someone who is very fat, when in reality they are extremely skinny. And to lose weight, they eat very little or not at all.

when nothing goes right, i go left.

Hey there. I'm sorry you're going through this. Truth is, you don't have to be thin to have an eating disorder. There are are girls who aren't thin who do, and there are girls who are thin that don't have an eating disorder. It almost have little to with weight. That said, you could be in denial about your weight. Those with eating disorders often don't think they have it. I don't know what kg is in relation to lbs, so I can't tell you if you're over weight or not. I think a good think to do is ask those who think your anorexic why they feel that way. You could be the thinnest girl in the world but eat a lot of food, and vice versa. I think a good idea would be to evaluate your dating habits and do some online research on eating disorders. It might even be a good idea to go to a doctor and see what they think. But if you aren't deliberately trying to starve yourself, then it's likely you don't have anorexia. There are so many factors that play into it, it's best just to do your research to see what anorexia really is, and if you fit the criteria. However, only a doctor can diagnose you. The internet merely works as a guideline.

Some people can be naturally thin and not have an eating disorder, some people can be larger and have disordered eating. It really all depends on how you see yourself and act on those thoughts. You say you watch what you eat - now that is normal - but to what extent do you do this?
Do you get enough food?
When you exercise, is all you think about burning calories?
Are you always trying to lose weight, even though at a normal weight?
Are you afraid to gain weight?
Do you think about food all the time?
Do you act differently around food than you used to?
Do you often find yourself trying to get out of eating a meal?
Do you feel better if you haven't eaten much during the day - do you feel you have succeeded?
Do you feel a failure if you eat something you 'shouldn't' ?
Do you find yourself having a list of foods you WON'T eat, purely because of the fat/calorie content?
Does the scale determine your mood?
Is your day ruled by the scale?

If you answer yes to a few of these, they you possibly do have disordered eating, the fact that you say you watch what you eat means nothing, as I think that is pretty common, but the other things I have listed AREN'T normal.
