Told my aunt... -
July 17th 2011, 03:37 AM
Well basically my therapist has been wanting me to tell my parents about my EDNOS, and well today I told my aunt. I felt really bad, and scared, and I just felt like crying. I mentioned it because we were in Tacobell and I over ate again, I decided I wanted to tell her and I did then we finished the conversation in the car. But I don't know how this will affect things between us or in the house in general. And I have no clue how to tell my mom, she'll blame herself, and I can understand why, she only eats 1 meal a day, because at first that's all she could eat with her 2 jobs and after months and years she only needed to eat 1 and be full. So yeah, it's not her fault, my ED started almost 7 years ago, but still she'll blame herself and maybe force herself to eat more meals, which she doesn't need. My therapist will be glad to know I told my aunt but I have no clue how to tell my mom...

Well done on telling your aunt it is a very positive step.
As for telling your mum, maybe you could ask your aunt to help you tell her. Or you could write a letter to your mum explaining it all. Telling parents about problems is a very nerve racking thing, but keep telling yourslef how much eaiser things will be when you have told your mum and how your mum and aunt can start helping you it what ever way you want them to. Good luck. I am here if you ever need to talk.

I'm really glad that you have taken that step forward in telling your aunt! Telling people who are close to us can be extremely difficult. You should be proud of all the progress you have made, Cheye. You have come so far. You have it in you to tell your mother, just like you told your aunt. Perhaps you can ask your aunt for her insight on the issue since she knows your mother well? She might have some helpful insight on the issue. Your mother cares for you as you already know- you two can get through this together.
Take care, lovely. |

Telling your aunt is an amazing thing. I'm so proud of you! I know how hard it can be to tell people about your struggles, but I think you've done amazing! I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I think telling your mom will be a hard thing too. I am personally a fan of the writing a letter idea. By writing a letter, you will get out all that you want to get out the way you want to get it out. Explain everything to her. The cause of your ED, for how long, etc.then leave the letter for her before you go to school. By doing this you're allowing her to find the letter and reflect on it. Also, it will give her time to figure out how she wants to respond to the letter. Either way, its going to be hard. It's also going to raise discussion, but you're going to get through this. Take care, dear. And know I'm always here for you when you need me

Well turns out telling my mom isn't hard at all, I don't have to because my aunt did for me, she thought she told me but I was asking her how to tell mom today and she said she had and she thought she had told me. So my mom does know now and I'm sorta glad my aunt told her because she knew how afraid I was.

I'm so glad that you told your aunt, and that now your mom knows! Youre making a lot of great progress it seems.
Because the initial issue has been resolved, I'm going to close this. But Cheye, if you need this reopened, just shoot me a PM and I would be more than ecstatic to re open it! ![]()
