Anorexic? -
September 8th 2011, 12:26 AM
I'm really confused. I don't starve myself or anything, but I'm still stuck on the anorexic topic. I'm [edited] pounds underweight. Is that a really big problem? Is that considered anorexic? I haven't been eating as much lately, but I don't know why. I just don't seem to be as hungry like I was when I was little. I also watch what exactly I eat. Diabetes run in my family, so i'm very careful about what i eat, I don't know if it has anything do with certain things, but oh well. I try not to eat so much sugars and stuff. Is there anything I could do about this, without being unhealthy?

There is more to anorexia nervosa than being underweight. Those suffering from eating disorders have a certain mindset, one you might call self-deprecating amongst many other things. If you'll take a look around the forum here, you'll see many examples of those who do seem to be genuinely suffering from eating disorders. They are psychological issues with great physical repercussions.
With that being said, we cannot diagnose you with anything here. Your appetite may be lessened for a number of reasons. In this case, I suggest you go to your doctor and discuss your diet with her. If you have a health concern that causes you to be careful about what you eat, it's only understandable that you would be a little more strict about your diet than the average person. Here is some information on anorexia nervosa. It's good to be aware of your own health. If you feel as though you are in a place which is unhealthy for you, talk to someone such as your doctor who may be able to give you sound advice. They can determine whether your weight is an issue or not since being underweight doesn't always equate to being unhealthy. Do not try and self diagnose! Talking to your doctor or a nutritionist is the best way of handling things. Someone else with better knowledge or experience with diabetes can probably contribute more nutritional information. I hope this has cleared things up for you. :) |

Thanks, it has made things more clear. I also feel more confident about my weight and my health. Once again, thanks so much!
