Haven't eaten in a few days. - September 18th 2011, 11:09 PM

Ok, so I was watching a vid in health class, and it was on eating disorders. I heard one girl say that she lost about [edited] in 2 weeks. Although this was supposed to sound bad, I thought it sounded Amazing!! So I decided to not eat to see how much weight I could lose, since my mom is really on me to get into shape. And while my past "eating disorders or self harming" was mostly to get attention, this is not. It's for me. Something I want to do. But I'm pretty sure I'm getting disapproving looks from my godmother who is starting to notice......... So what to do?

What do you do? You stop doing it.
It's not healthy, and that is why it is called an eating disorder. Not eating will slow down your metabolism which will make it harder for your body to digest foods. In turn, when you do eat you will gain weight much faster. The best and safest way to loose weight is the healthy way. With a good nutritious diet plan and exercise.
Not eating can also make you become malnourished, which is a really bad problem. Your body needs nutrients for you to stay healthy and strong.

It is not a safe or healthy way to loose weight. Plus, the rate at which your body is going to consume fat to muscle is so close that, by the time you loose a significant amount of fat, you will have lost a dangerous amount of muscle mass (you could end up in the hospital).

Please try to pursue this in a more healthy way. I do not want you to get hurt.

So you want to do this really unhealthy thing... but you're afraid your godmother would mind? I say, just stop. If you really want to lose weight there are better ways. If you really don't want to eat at all, at least a healthy breakfast and exercise (you don't have to lift weights... going up and down stairs or even walking a few miles works too). Don't forget to drink whenever you are the littlest bit thirsty.

This is really not amazing. Your mother wants you to get into shape, not waste your life away through an eating disorder. It ages you beyond belief. Getting into shape means eating healthfully and exercising moderately so that you feel better overall. You absolutely do not achieve the same results by completely starving yourself of nutrients, not under any circumstance.

Living with an eating disorder can feel like living in hell. This is not good in any way. I hope you understand what I am trying to tell you instead of finding out for yourself.

You want to lose weight to be pretty?

Is being so skinny you look like a halloween skeleton pretty?
Is selfishly and cruely harming yourself in front of everyone you know pretty?
Is slowly killing yourself pretty?
Is losing all your hair from being malnourished pretty?

Eating disorders are not a joke, they are not fun. Get help for this now.

I have to completely agree with Justin. While his words may seems a bit 'harsh', it's the absolute truth. Eating disorders are not something to mess around with. Besides, you can't just wake up one day and be like "I think I will be anorexic! That sounds good". That's more or less an insult to those who actually have an issues with eating disorders. Eating disorders are serious things. While those with eating disorders have self esteem issues, they also have depression of some sort. It's more or less the same thing as harming your self. Just in a different way. It's all a way to gain control and to keep yourself going. It's not all glamorous.

If you want to lose weight, do it the healthy way. The normal way. Excercise and healthy eating. You'll feel loads better doing it the healthy way. And you won't be stuck in a vicious cycle I like to call Anorexia.

I was going to say the same thing as Nicole (Melody). Not eating isn't good for your body. It's a myth that not eating with help you lose weight. Sad fact, it does the opposite. If you really want to lose weight you need to start a good healthy diet and if you choose, a regular workout plan.
What I've heard (I might be wrong) but I think a human can only go a few weeks (maybe 2 months tops) without eating and eventually die from lack of nutrients the body is getting.
The best thing is to eat, Tristyn.

Of course not eating will make you lose weight. The problem occurs when you(inevitably, unless you feel like dying) eat again. An anorexic's weight yo-yos a lot more than people think - and it's an extremely UN-glamorous disorder. You'll get into the cycle of starve and lose a bit of weight, eat for a day and gain twice back. If you manage to reverse it and lose more than you gain, you'll make yourself extremely sick and your body will hurt - a lot. It's a miserable, miserable thing and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Physical pain, nausuea, insomnia, dizzyness, GI issues(not eating really messes with your digestive system a lot more than people seem to think) - these of course, are just a few of the physical symptons you'll experience alongside of long-term(SERIOUSLY, I have done permanant damage to my heart, and I'm only 19! This is NOT something to mess around with if you have any concerns about your long term well being and survival) Starvation is very slow, drawn out torture. And that doesn't even touch on the mental anguish that anorexia brings. Please, for the sake of your health and happiness, nourish your body and seek some help before you get in too deep.
