Gaining weight =\ - September 21st 2011, 11:20 AM

I've been gaining weight over the last couple weeks while I have been on the Atkins diet. I'm getting really anxious and nervous about it all.... and I'm starting to feel super upset/depressed. I don't want to turn to my previous starvation/purging crutches... but I don't know what to do. I'm eating a strict number of calories and working out... yet still gaining. I guess I can try to do better tomorrow. But It's so hard to get up and go through another day just completely hating yourself and feeling like the biggest failure. I don't want to exist at this weight. I just can't handle it.

It was so dumb of me to treat myself yesterday. So dumb.

Help?

Hey Amy

I would go to a doctor about dieting. My mother did the Atkins diet for a long time and for her it worked in the short term, but is just not something that is easy to stick to, and when things go wrong, it's easy to fall into worse habits. A nutritionist can give you a diet that will work for your specific body type, and will help you reach your goals. Are you having a scheduled exercise plan as well?

Good luck!

It's not the muscle thing-- if anything, I'm losing tone from not doing as many weights and whatever.

I might go see a nutritionist. It's not that I'm cheating on my diet or anything.... but it seems like it's failing all of a sudden. I work out every morning for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. So I don't think it's lack of exercise. =\

I just hate feeling this way all the time. I just want to *lose* this weight I put on..

I don't know about the Atkins diet, but if you are trying to loose weight then you must eat healthy and after every 2 hours. This will keep up your metabolism which will help in burning fat.

Its easier said that done BUT most of the great things wouldn't have ever been done if they hadn't been said first.

May I ask how often you're weighing yourself?
The bodyweight naturally fluctuates for a variety of reasons - you could be gaining muscles, you could be pmsing(you could gain anywhere from (edited) lbs due to this, so keep this in mind!), etc.

I used to obsessively weigh myself and nothing good came of it. My weight fluctuations would drive me insane, and if it was staying the same for more than a day I would freak out. I would find though that my body lost weight a little strangely sometimes, nothing would happen for a while and then all of the sudden it was like I'd drop (edited)lbs overnight. I suggest weighing yourself infrequently, if at all. I try not to weigh myself anymore. Nothing good comes from it.
