Whey Protein - September 30th 2011, 09:30 AM

These protein drinks for muscles.. will they turn fat into muscle like exercise does?

I am finding it so hard to lose weight, I fail to stick to exercise and can't stick to healthy eating I am addicted to crisps and chocolate.

I am 5'6 and am of healthy weight but I have a bit of a belly and I HATE it.
I also have the implant in, which is supposed to make you gain weight. Which it has, my thighs are disgusting.. I have stretch marks.. I hate my body.

Will this work?

Hey Jordd,

I'm sorry to tell you that no drink you have can make fat turn to muscle. The only way to do that is exercise, and even that takes time. Also, unless you are an athlete, these drinks can often be counterproductive t your weight loss since they have a high amount of fat and protein to be able to rebuild muscle after a work out. They are not diet drinks. Diet drinks aren't good for you either, since they lack real nutritional value.

My recommendation to you is to see a nutritionist, or a doctor, somebody who can be able to look at your body type and be able to make the recommendation of a diet right for you. Because you are a healthy weight, you do not need to lose weight. However, you could choose to get better in shape, which may result in a loss of fat, but you must remember the number on the scale often goes up. Muscle weighs more than fat, and even if you might gain weight, your body fat structure will go down. We often freak out thinking "Oh my god, nothing we're doing is working!" but if you're working out a lot, you could easily gain a good amount of muscle. Do not let this cause you to give up on the program. A program given by your doctor is healthy, and can help you reach your goals without starving yourself.

You also have to realize that even if you do not look like a Victoria Secret model, you are still beautiful. Real people do not look like that, real people have a stomach, and real people have stretch marks, and real people have fat on their thighs. Often time, those women look like that, and have been fixed by photoshop. It's sad but true, they put these images in the media, and we think that's what you are supposed to look like. If you are a healthy body weight, you are fine, and look fine. Remember, don't let those models define how you view yourself.

Last, when you say implant, you're meaning birth control, right? There are birth controls that particularly do not cause weight loss, and you could talk to your gynecologist about switching to this. You may also want to consider that a lot of this weight gain happens in your breast issue, and although the scale goes up, the fat is going into a healthy place rather than in the stomach area. So that's something also to consider.

I hope this helps! Please see a nutritional for a diet plan, and please love yourself. Good luck!

Wow thanks so much for your reply Traci. Seriously, I think I am just looking for the easy way.. I just want a toned stomach with no wobbly belly fat.

Where can I speak to a nutritionist person? Or will my doctor tell me/refer me.
I am definitely going to do it the right way!

A doctor could recommend you! You can also Google nutritionists near your area, the internet is such a hopeful thing. If there are none in your area, or your area does not have a nutritionist because you live in a small town, there are other types of professional doctors that can do similar work. The biggest thing you have to remember is not to self diagnose. It is very easy to think you need to lose xx amount of pounds, when really it is unhealthy. BMI, or diet websites can very easily make you think you have to fit a ridiculous standard. Only a doctor can really say.

Hope this helps! I'm very glad you're going to see one! It's very helpful for people serious about getting toned, but want to do it healthily.

Whey protein doesn't turn fat into muscle. In fact if you drink it, and don't bother exercising, you'll likely gain mostly fat from it, if anything.

About the "flabby" stomach... I think most people have it. I think you're talking about the bit of fat that always accumulates towards the bottom of your belly right? Near the waist? That's particularly difficult to get rid of. I exercise quite a lot, am fairly lean, but I got the same fat around that area. I heard swimming is one of the best ways to get rid of it, but I have no pool anywhere near me, nor am I too bothered about it.

In my opinion, almost any diet you go on to try and rid yourself of that fat is likely to be unhealthy, as it won't contain enough nutrients for the rest of your body. The other way is to eat normal and balanced, but to do quite a lot of running, and sit-ups and plank exercises. Rowing is also pretty good. Light-weight squats too.

I have very little clue how you can loose the fat off your thighs though, and how those implants work. Guys generally don't have that problem unless the're obese I think. I imagine cycling could work though.

I wouldn't drink some kind of magic protein drink... But you can feel more full if you add the whey powder to your food. I know that sounds kind of gross, but ever since I went vegetarian my mom started sneaking it into dishes so I'd get the extra protein and fill up without eating a ton of carbs. I never even noticed it was happening, so that should tell you something about the lack of taste and texture. Or how observant I am.
