Help - October 15th 2011, 08:02 PM

I recently just "got over" anorexia and started to eat again.
So gaining weight was inevitable, but now i am a little overwieght.
I want to lose this weight healthy and not by starving myself.
but im scared i'll relapse. What are some exercises i could do
that wouldn't be triggering?

Hey Emily,

First, I want to congratulate you on your recovery. What you have done is so hard, and you are a very strong person for this. Even if you have gained a bit of weight, what you have done is amazing, and don't let a bit of a weight gain tell you otherwise.

If you believe you are overweight, and want to lose weight the healthy way, I would recommend you see a doctor a nutritionist. They can give you a plan that can work for your body type, along with doing it a healthy way that will avoid relapse. Are you currently seeing a therapist? If so, I would tell them what you are doing, and give them updates so they can help you if something were to happen that would cause relapse. You also may want to consider just increasing your exercise, but not altering your amount of food. Exercise increases your metabolism, so it will help you digest the food you eat anyway.

I'm going to leave you with the "Guide to Healthy eating" from TeenHelp, which can give you some other ideas for how to eat well, but very healthy as well. I wish you so much luck, and want to let you know if you need anybody to talk to, I'm always here!

Hey there,

I'm so glad you want to do this the healthy way. Throughout recovery, you're going have feelings of being triggered from time to time. that's completely natural. But you can overcome it. No doubt about that. You've already made it this far. My suggestion to you, is that when you're feeling triggered and want to relapse, that you talk to someone. Let them know what's going on. They can really help you to feel better. Talk to someone you trust. Another thing you can do, is find ways to distract yourself. Go on a walk, or watch a movie. Play a board game or go shopping. It could really help.

As far as exercising and what not. I think Traci has given you an excellent link. It can really help you to stay on track with eating healthy. Another thing you should do is see a nutritionist. They create a healthy diet you're comfortable with, based on your height, weight, BMI, muscle mass, etc. I had one before, and they were REALLY helpful. They help to explain how everything works. Another thing you can do is get exercising videos. Just basic little twenty minute workouts. That will help you lose weight the healthy way, and not too much. You also won't feel as overwhelmed or triggered to exercise for hours. By having a set diet and time to exercise, you can stay on track.

Good luck!
