I did it! - October 26th 2011, 03:29 AM

Ok so today I made a huge step to eat normally and I did! Yay but., now that the days over I feel really bad! I hate myself really really bad right now! why did I have to do that? Maybe it was too big of a step idk. All I know is that I feel terrible, very low self esteem, I'm disgusted with myself Is there like a certain process you have to go through to recover? Any advice is welcomed

I don't think there is a certain process, you have to just keep crossing out of your comfort zone until you feel you can eat normally without feeling guilty. Eating a normal meal was great, think about how good it feels that you made that step, rather then how bad it makes you feel.
The next time you are looking in a mirror, try finding 5 things you love about yourself. Write little notes and hide them or even just put some post-its up on your mirror that have things you love about yourself written on them. You have to remind yourself that you are beautiful, and you can get through this.

That is awesome!! It's normal to have after thoughts after such an accomplishment. The mind is a powerful thing, though, and it controls your emotions. The negative, self defeating thoughts that you are having can be easily replaced with positive, affirming, congratulatory ones.

Catch your thoughts as they are happening. When you hear a negative thought such as, "I'm so gross...I can't believe I..." the first step is to recognize the thought. Recognizing the thought will immediately stop the thought it its tracks. Now, you have to replace that thought with a positive one. A thought like, "I'm so proud of myself for having eaten today." or "I am so happy that I have decided to take care of myself and my body".

This is an extremely powerful, proven method of changing our behavior and our habits. At first, it will be challenging to catch the negative thoughts as they occur but it shouldn't take long at all. Writing positive affirmations in a journal to yourself is also effective and will help you come up with the positive thoughts that you'll need to replace the negative ones with.

I want to congratulate you again for rocking it out today! Congratulations on taking back control of your life : ) Yay!! I'm here if you want to vent or chat.

One last thing. ..
Remember to recognize your life as it goes by. Be grateful for all that you have and help others by being kind.
