Sometimes I go days without eating then I eat everything in sight, does this count as an eating disorder?

hummm. this is a hard one because an eating disorder has to do with the mind also. it could be that u just dont have an appitate so u dont eat and then u get hungry and eat alot. but if ur not eating for a reason then there could be a problem

Are you purposely not eating because you want to loose weight, or does it just happen because you're not actually hungry? What do you think the reason is?

I think the reason is that it's my way of grieving, cuz I've lost 5 people in the last 3 months. I guess it's kind of both

If you are doing this because you are trying to lose weight then it could definitely be a sign of an eating disorder/disordered eating. However we are not professionals so we cannot diagnose you. The best advice I can give you is that you go to a counselor and get some help for your grieving as well as for the issues with eating. I know reaching out for help can be really hard but in the end it could be really beneficial.

The thing to remember that eating disorders can take many different forms or they start out slowly and progress and it would be best for you to get this under control before it gets out of hand. My eating disorder started out very slowly and then with time it has gotten out of hand and I would hate for that to happen to you.

I hope this helped and if you need any thing please feel free to use teenhelps many resources.

By feeling the need to lose weight you may be developing an eating disorder. I used to do the except same thing, I wouldn't eat then eat everything in sight because I was feeling controlled and didn't feel like I had control in my life, so by eating it gave me a reason not to eat. Just stay in the honey. Stay Strong. PM me anytime.

Hey Amanda,

If you are not eating due to the want to lose weight, you could have an eating disorder. However, we are not doctors, and cannot diagnose you with any disorder one way or another.

I would highly recommend you talk to an adult you trust. If you need to lose weight, they can get you to a doctor, nutritionist, or dietitian.to be able to prescibe you a healthy, safe weightloss plan, rather than using crash diets are starvation, which is neither healthy nor as productive to your weight loss. Eating a healthy, balanced diet is always a better alternative than by harming yourself by not eating. Exercise, when not overdone, is also a great way to lose weight that is safe, and can also be a stress reliever.

If you do not need to lose weight, an adult you trust can also get you to a psychologist, and have you talk about why you are having these issues with food. Whether or not it's the greiving, or the craving to lose weight, a psychologist would be able to talk to you about these issues and help you be able to figure out how to deal with them.

Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you never need any advice!

The best way and the only way to know for sure if you have an Eating Disorder is to consult a doctor. If you're not eating to lose weight, then that poses a problem. There are other ways to lose weight. Eating healthy and exercising, it doesn't fail. You just have to have the motivation, and the self discipline to stick to the diet.

With an eating disorder, it's often associated with something deeper. Such as depression and anxiety. Often times, people who choose to not are trying to gain back control when they feel they've lost it in other areas of their lives. Is there anyone you can talk to? How about your parents or friends? Get some help and support. You don't want this to get out of control. <3

If your friends are not supportive is there anyone else in your life that you could reach out too? I know that might be hard to do but the best way to beat this is by having a good network of support. Also, a while ago I was trying to help a woman start up an Eating Disorder Anonymous group in our area and there is this really neat site that talks all about how it and it also list locations for EDA meetings in different states. I am going to give you a link to that site and maybe you will be able to find and EDA group close to your area. It really helps to have people who can relate to your struggles, have people to talk, it might help you make friends that will be supportive and slowly you might build up a really strong network of support. http://www.eatingdisordersanonymous.org/meetings.html

Does your school have a school psychologist? If so maybe you could go in and talk to him or her? If you don't feel comfortable talking to them about your issue in regards to eating right away start out by talking about some of the things that are contributing to it. It is very true that Eating Disorders go a lot deeper than a persons desire to want to lose weight; there are deeper reasons such as feeling like they don't have control in life, struggling with depression, having problems at home, feeling lost. I believe you identified one of the triggers to your disordered eating patterns which was grieving and maybe you could go and talk to your school psychologist about that. Losing people is extremely hard and losing 5 people in such a short amount of time must have taken its toll on you; however if you talk to someone about it you can slowly work on healing from it which might help in regards to your disordered eating patterns.

I would also suggest that you try figuring out what some of your other triggers are. The better you get at figuring out what your triggers are the better able you will be at figuring out some resolutions to those triggers and/or finding better coping skills.

I really hope this helped in some way and if you need anything please feel free to pm me.

Jenna

Amanda,

Starving is not going to take the pain away; you need to find someone to talk to about these things so that you can really deal with them and move on. If you are able to do that then you can slowly work on getting to a better place and you won't need to starve yourself, harm yourself, to cope or feel a bit better about things.

Please hang in there and remember I am available through pm.
