IS THIS A PROBLEM??? -
January 10th 2012, 01:59 AM
Lately I've been skipping meals and cutting back during the meals I do eat. One of my friends confronted me about it and idk what to do. I used to have this problem a while ago cuz of my bf (now ex) saying I should get skinnier. Then I got better and he broke up w me 4 months ago and it's slowly coming back. I'm kinda worried and have no idea what to do. Any ideas? Am I worrying over nothing??

Do you know why you're skipping meals and cutting back your food intake? For example, is it a conscious thing or just a lack of appetite? That's the most important thing to realize.
If you're just not hungry, try to eat what you can, focusing on healthy foods. If you're intentionally not eating, then yes, it is a problem. Since you've experienced a similar situation before, does it feel the same as it did then? Try to figure out why you're falling into this pattern. If you find the source, it's easier to confront the feelings and deal with them in a healthy way. If you need someone to talk to, my PM box is always open.

I'm already a healthy food eater and I'm cutting back even tho I'm still hungry when I'm done so I'll make myself look better. Is that bad?

It could be the start of something unhealthy. Any time you start "dieting" habits without consulting a doctor, or at least a nutritionist/personal trainer who can tell you what YOU need, you run the risk of harming yourself.
As someone who started once upon a time just cutting back on eating, then lost control to an eating disorder, I would not recommend starting any kind of dieting on your own. Eat healthy, balanced meals proportionate to how active your lifestyle is. Aimlessly or harshly cutting calories is going to do more harm than good. It might help to ask your doctor how many calories you should be eating per day. PM me any time if you have more questions. If you need someone to talk to, my PM box is always open.

I agree, maybe meet with a doctor and see what they think is going on. Plus, adding just a little bit more calories each day will help big time because if you set yourself up with a goal, and after completeing that goal you will feel proud of yourself.

I'm seeing a psychologist does that help? But I'm not going to tell her about this one cuz if I do then it makes it real. I know I sound crazy.

I totally understand "telling makes it real", I just started seeing a therapist last week and I'm terrified to tell him about my own eating issues as well. But he or she can't help if you don't tell them.
This is one of those things that you have to stop before it gets going or it's a long road to recovery. If you need someone to talk to, my PM box is always open.
