I've never personally gone through it but I assume there would be counciling involved along with helping to better your eating habits so that you are healthy. In the long run yes you probably would gain some weight but they would help you to accept your body the way it is.

Well it depends, if you're underweight, yes there would be some weight gain. Lots of therapy & counseling & monitoring

Like the other posters have said, if you are underweight, your counselor will probably encourage you to gain weight. They can't force you to do that, but it's definitely something that they'll try to convince you to do. They're not going to make you fat; they're just going to try to bring you to a healthy weight. It's for your own good, though.

Hey Renee,
If you told your parents/therapist, it would be process. One, they would probably have you officially screened for what eating disorder you have. You say that you have anorexia, but the only way to get an official diagnosis is through a doctor, so they would go through all the measures get you diagnosed. Next, they would make a plan of action for your recovery, whether or not you will start regular counseling about your eating disorder, possibly with an eating disorder specialist, whether you would do outpatient treatment for an eating disorder (following a strict plan, but staying at home with your parents, but visiting a counselor and specialist daily), or you possibly could be referred to inpatient care, which they would put you in a hospital for a few weeks to a few months while you are able to recover. Recovery from an eating disorder is more than gaining, although if you are underweight, it would probably be one of the things you would do. But recovery would also include learning new coping strategies, learning your triggers, and trying to understand yourself and your body in a different way than you did before. Don't be afraid of recovery. As scary as the weight gain sounds, as you recover, you don't just get stuffed with food just to make you "normal" or something like that. You heal from the traumas that put you in this state of mind in the first place, and the weight gain is healthy and slow over time. Plus, with some of the coping strategies such as working out or yoga, you would still stay in shape, just would gain until you are a healthier weight. Your recovery process, and process of treatment, would differ depending on what your doctors believe your needs are, this just just an overview of what may happen. If you get the opportunity for help, take it. It would be amazing for your health, and for your spirit. Good luck, feel free to message me if you need! |
