Unhappy Changes in Diet - January 22nd 2012, 10:05 AM

Ok. I guess it's time I open up about this here. For the past 3 weeks or so, I have barely been eating 1, rarely 2, small meals a day. A rise in exercise has occurred, but it's not excessive. I have begun to lose weight, and about that, I am glad. I've been overweight for most of my life. Almost all of my family is overweight as well. I really don't like the way my body is. I'm trying to hard to change it. My family hasn't taken notice to my diet changes and I'm glad they haven't. They haven't been supportive of me lately in many ways. You can see little, if any, changes in my body. At this value of pounds lost, I'm sure some changes should be visible. I know losing weight takes time and is a challenge, but what's going on with me? Any ideas? If my body were in starvation mode and packing all the cals in as fat, wouldn't my weight be the same or just a little less instead of what the value is now? After I eat, if I do, I get and stay feeling really sick to my stomach. It's a different feeling than that of introducing food after having not eaten in a while. Mostly nausea. What's wrong with me? I almost have a phobia of eating and my body is so gross! I look and feel so terrible.. :/

I'm no expert on this by any means, but it sounds to me like it could possibly be an eating disorder. Losing weight is good if you are overweight, but you shouldn't do it at the cost of having adequate. nutrition. So, if you are in fact afraid of food, I'd recommend that you see a professional.

Eating barely anything is doomed to fail. Take it from someone whos been there and done that a million times over. Each time I would do it I would lose alot of weight but you can't keep it up forever. Eating sparingly slows your metabolism right down so that when you begin to eat normally again, you will gain weight very very easily. Seeing a therapist would help because they can talk about the emotional factors that are causing your eating issues (self esteem problems, stress, depression, etc.) If you really aren't happy with your body then try an eating plan that is structured, because then your weight loss will last long term. Talk to your doctor about it and see what would best suit you but I strongly reccommend something like weight watchers, thats what I went on and its the only thing thats worked for me, I love it. Then again, different things work for different people. In the meantime, hang in there, your beautiful hun ♥ Pm anytime you need.

..you might want to talk to your doctor, or go to a school counslor. They will be able to help you out. It sounds like an eating disorder, but i would tell someone til it comes to the point were you don't want to or can't.

Okay, being a big person myself (seriously.) You shouldn't be only eating one meal a day. That might work for super models, but that can't work for an average person. Everyone's body is beautiful. Eat healthy, Drink a lot of water, and talk to someone. This sounds like an eating disorter.

Not to judge you, or anything, but don't do this to yourself. Don't take societies insicurities and destroy your body running after it.

Take another look in that mirror of yours (or another one, that one must be lying!) Your Beautiful, just the way you are <3

Hey Mary,

As some others have said, eating barely anything can actually lead to a bad habit of restricting, which can lower your metabolism, cause you to binge, and honestly, and often not even lead to weight loss. If you are unhappy the way you look, you should see a doctor, nutritionist, or dietitian . They can prescribe you a diet/exercise remedy that works for your body type, and can help you lose weight the healthy way! They can also tell you whether or not you actually need to lose weight, and if you don't, lead you to the therapy to help you deal with any body image issues you may be having.

Hope that helps, love yourself no matter what.
