Talking QUITING! - May 10th 2012, 01:45 AM

SO HERE I GO. THIS IS GONNA SUCK!

okay so i had my first smoke (tobacco) at the age of 13, and since i have an addictive personality i got hooked within the first few smokes i ever had.

over the last 6-8 months ive been turning into a heavier smoker, i can sit there and just chain smoke (one after another after another, after another and it goes on). i never had to money to be a pack a day, but spent between $20-$60 per week on smokes, (i normally get like $40 a week) so its getting to expensive.

i also noticed my teeth werent as white as they once were, and i forever have a cough. so health wise it was doing me no favors and with my new job i cannot have a smoke and then go work with the kids (babies are really sensitive to smoke)

So before it starts getting to expensive, causing me any more harm to my body, and before it harms the kids i work with im QUITING!

YUP THATS RIGHT! QUITING! AHHHHHH!

i have so far been 6 days without one, and heck ive been tempted.

so two things,

Can anyone give me any tips on quiting??

have a good day

Re: QUITING! - May 10th 2012, 07:07 AM

Uh.
I can't give you any tips; I'm still addicted.

I quit for two weeks once.
Well, I wouldn't call it quitting. I went to social-smoker mode - roughly one a day.
I now smoke 30 a day - which, in Australia, as you can imagine, is about $140 a week. I earn just a bit over that.

But you're doing well. Keep it up. (:

I'm so happy to see your trying to quit, its hard but possible. Please stick with it I know you've got the perseverance and dedication to see this through. Its your life and your health. You get one game on earth, play your hand well.

I've moved this topic to the General health forum, at TeenHelp we try to focus on health and recovery this topic is better suited here for that reason. If you have any questions feel free to contact myself or another member of the moderating team.

As far as tips on quitting:
Try to figure out what triggers your cravings. Once you figure those out, try finding ways to avoid them/cope with them.
Journal writing
Going out for a walk
Calling a friend
Stuff like that.

Good luck!

Chewing gum
Suckers
Eating candy (not the healthiest lol)
Keeping your hands busy with stress balls
Holding a stick in between your hands (works for my mom as her addiction is only about the action)

If you ever want to, send me a PM So glad to see you trying hard!

That's great! I had an uncle who started to smoke when he was 10, and 20 years later he quit. He told me every time he felt like picking up a cigarette he took his dog for a walk Don't know if that'll help but good luck!

Re: QUITING! - May 14th 2012, 11:34 AM

ive been through so much gum in the last few days its not funny!
i broke it on friday night and brought a packet, i feel bad cos im postponing my giving up for just another week, started having a brake down, and since im quitting two major habits in one go, i feel like its going to go pear shaped, the other thing im stopping is cutting, its one of the harder of the two. i have my dead line on when i have to quit by, so as long as im clean by then... :P

i fail right

As a non-smoker, I can't offer any tips but it's good that you've decided to quit, definitely a good idea! Keep up the good work and stay strong

Re: QUITING! - May 25th 2012, 03:06 AM

I am also trying to quit, however it may not seem that way.

Both of the things you are trying to quit are very addicting, and hard things to quit. As a former SH, I know it was a lot harder than what everyone said it would be to quit, which lead to me smoking. Now I'm trying to quit that, and as I'm sure you can tell, nicotine is just the easiest thing in the world to say no to! (All sarcasm if you had any doubts haha)

As for tips, keeping busy if your best bet. Aside from that I can't really help, however I am here for you if you need to talk, or vent. Talking to someone can get rid of the craving, and it's nice to meet new people.

PM me anytime if you need someone to listen or to talk to.
