uhm, help. - May 10th 2012, 12:10 PM

Okay, I feel awkward talking about this.
I had tonsilitis really bad last week and the last few days ive been.. really itchy down there and.today i noticed thick white discharge, and with my knowledge and reasearch its most likely thrush, i also looked at the side effects of my antibiotics and thrush was one of them.. anyway my point is, how do I treat it? I dont want.to tell my mum because we arent really close and i feel awkward telling dads partner who.is a nurse, and i.dont see my GP for like two weeks.. if there is any over the counter treatment that you know of or any home remedies thatbwould be great.. but i have my own money if there is something at a chemist

You should be able to get Canestan Duo over the counter at a pharmacy

Hope it clears up soon!

Michy.

You can get canesten duo over the counter, but I've read and heard so many times that if this is your first time having it, you should definitely make sure it is what it is with a doctor, or at least talk to the pharmacist about it. It does sound like thrush to me but it's best to make sure that's definitely it. I've heard that home remedies like taking cool baths with bread soda in them, and dipping a tampon in natural yoghurt and putting it in you can help a lot. I know they sound a little odd, but they help restore the natural pH. You could try those and see if they help??

Camomile tea infusions can be helpful to wash with for UTI infections too

Keep in mind, antibiotics can also cause a Yeast Infection which resembles Thrush but is a bit different and treated differently.

Tell your mom. She should understand as she has probably had an infection herself. Just say "I think the antibiotics are causing me to have a side effect. Can I go to the doctor?"

If she asks why just explain "I have some stuff 'down there' and I want to get it looked at".

It shouldn't be embarrassing. Women deal with these sort of things. It doesn't mean anything bad about you. But definitely see a doctor before you treat yourself.
