I Cant Eat Anything ! - May 23rd 2012, 06:26 PM

All throughout Middle School and High School i dance and ate whenever i had the chance. When i went off to college i had to stop dancing to focus on school, but my eating stayed the same if anything i think i ate more. I started gaining weight obviously since i am not as active as i used to be, but it didnt bother me.
Recently i realized i have been eating smaller portions as if i was full after just a couple of bites.. I will be so hungry where my stomach is growling but when i go to eat i dont have an appetite for anything. I havent really been able to eat anything for the past couple days and i dont know why. Someone please tell me what is wrong, all i wanna do is eat and i cant :/ this cant be healthy

Hey,

Firstly, none of us here are medical professionals, and therefore we can't diagnose you with anything. But what I would say is that if you are having problems with eating, it's always best to make an appointment to see a doctor.

From what you've described above, I think this may be a physical problem more than a mental one. An eating disorder is a mental illness, and what you've described could be a range of things from stress to a tummy bug.

Make an appointment to see your doctor and explain what's going on. You're right, not eating enough IS unhealthy. It can lead to all sorts of health problems, from mineral deficiencies to death, if starvation is prolonged.

Make an appointment, and in the mean time try to eat little and often, if that is more appealing to you than eating 3 bigger meals.

Hey there,

I'm so sorry you've been going through this. I'm going to move this to General Health because it's more fitting and I think you will get better replies having more to do with the problem.

I am not a professional, and neither is anybody on this site. However, I think this might have to do with your metabolism. When you were active, you had a very high metabolism, and you were able to eat a lot and your appetite was always high. However, after you stopped exercising, your appetite may have gone down and you are not used to eating the lower amount of food. If it's getting to a point where you are barely eating anything a day, I would suggest seeing a doctor as well. Even if you are not exercising, you need the right amount of food every day for your body. Plus, if this is a more serious problem, seeing a doctor would be the only place to be able to get a proper diagnosis and help.
