I need some support. - June 3rd 2012, 11:48 PM

I eat the most unhealthiest things ever! Like cookies, ice cream, chips, etc. I really want to stop and want to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. I'm pretty sure I can handle it, but if there's anyone else who wants to start eating healthy or is a healthy eater could you PM because I know this isn't going to be easy, but I want to do it.

It's just now getting to me that junk that I always eat does nothing for my body, energy, or mind. I feel happy while I'm eating it then after wards I feel bad.

So whenever I want some cookies I'll have some strawberries without the whip cream!
I did that today and was surprised that the strawberries were amazing!

So contact me please if you have the time because this isn't going to be easy.

It's great that you want to start eating healthy! A lot of people decide they're going to eat healthier, and they do it for a little while then regress back to the mindset "Just a few chocolates won't hurt." And they end up eating unhealthy foods again. Now I'm not saying you can never eat junk food again; what's life without some good chocolates or ice cream now and again? The key is moderation.

I think a good way for you to continue eating healthy is to reach out to your family for help. Tell your parents you want to eat more healthy foods, and maybe have them move the junk food somewhere you can't find it, or they can help restrict your junk food intake. That way you won't be as tempted by that bag of chips in the cabinet. I hope everything goes well for you!

I admit that I too can eat a whole heck of a lot healthier and want to start. This thread motivated me to ask my mother in the morning if she can buy some healthier snacks at the grocery store. Like Haru said, you don't have to completely give up the snacks, but just have them in moderation. Maybe find snacks that are healthy that you like to eat as well? For example, I am a fan of nuts and fruit, I just don't always get a lot of them. A lot of us get really addicted to the unhealthy foods, but sometimes healthy food can be just as great. It would also be good if your family got involved with you, such as making healthier meals for the family and, also like Haru said, restricting the junk food intake so it isn't as serious as a problem.

Yes eatting healthy is hard and takes so much work and effort. I try to eat healthy sometimes but sometimes I dont do too good on eatting healthy. It sure is something you got to think of.

What I try to do to make sure Im eatting healthy. Is have lunch with a fruit and then for dinner try to always have vegatables with it. Then for snacks I can have choclate but then I also try to have some healthy crackers that taste good.

Seeing a nutritionist or dietitian would be your best bet for learning how to eat healthier! You can also check out our Guide to Healthy Eating for a good overview about making healthier meal choices. I do warn though, the link does have calorie numbers, so if that's something you are triggered by, you may not want to read this page. Good luck!

You don't need a nutritionist yet. You aren't training for the Olympics are you? You just want to eat healthier. There's so much information out there on the internet that it sort of makes a nutritionist unnecessary at the moment.

I'd recommend you ignore all of the fad diets that claim you will lose loads very quickly if you follow it. What usually happens is that you don't actually eat enough then when it's over you go back to being unhealthy. Eating healthy isn't a short term thing.

In regards to junk food, it helps to realise how short term the pleasure actually is. When you eat a chocolate cake or something, it feels good for a little bit then its over. So ask yourself whether that was worth it or not. So either learn to say no to giving in all the time (what I do) or ask your parents to stop buying them ( I found that impossible... but I just don't eat it. Weird, I know)

You can also make eating healthy fun. Most healthy food requires you to make it yourself. So use that as something to look forward too. I enjoy it anyway.

But I must say, you don't have to cut out junk completely. Just make sure its in moderation and you aren't just eating it all the time. For me, doing that makes eating it more worthwhile (that sounded really cheesy but I couldn't help it lol)
