Smoking - June 6th 2012, 12:13 PM

Hi guys.

I used to smoke and a few months ago I started again. I quit for a good year after smoking for a good two and I'm trying to stop again. I don't want to use the gum or anything and was wondering how any of you managed to stop. Did you throw yourselves in the deep end and just stop? Did you replace it with something else etc?

Hey Jess,

I've been using electronic cigarettes for almost 2 months now and I can say they are definitely working. It's literally just nicotine and without all the chemicals in normal cigarette, and it feels like one too. You still get the sensation as well. I would definitely recommend them as I haven't touched a normal cig since. They're much cheaper too.
There are all sorts of brands but the ones I use are SmokeRelief. I found those are more realistic than others.
These are probably more as an alternative way of smoking, not giving up. It depends on if you want to stop it completely or do it safely.

Re: Smoking - June 7th 2012, 08:29 AM

The time I stopped (for about 3 years before resuming, stress etc.) I went the whole hog - smoked the last one in the packet and just stopped.

Not a lot of people succeed at doing that though, I'm particularly strong willed and don't have an addictive personality which made it heaps easier. Most people find some sort of replacement helps. Magical Forest's suggestion of electronic cigarettes is a good one, I also know a fair few people who have used them to give up, as well as some people who use them recreationally because they're not as damaging as smoking tobacco.

Good luck on your quest for a smokefree lifestyle
