My tongue feels sore and is white. - June 12th 2012, 04:31 PM

Hey!

So yesterday I had to get some toothpaste and I bought a cheap one for 20p. Me and my friend who stopped over brushed our teeth and it tasted really bad and like 10 minutes later she went really white and said to me 'your tongue is huge' I checked hers out and it was a really awkward purple colour and her gums were inflamed.

So as the day went on my tongue got a bit better but I could feel how rough it was, like when you lick ice cream and tastebuds pop out. It was sore beyond belief and still is. We checked the ingredients and it had like loads of sodium stuff in it. She said it's probably burnt our tongue or it's an allergic reaction.

Thing is my tongue is still a bit sore but my glands in my mouth and throat have swelled up. I can hardly eat! My tongue is really white at the back like when I'm ill. It's still a little swollen too.

Took some ibuprofen but I feel no difference to the swelling.

Any ideas how to make it feel better and how to take the swelling down?
And like what could've gone wrong? I've lost my appetite and appeal to do anything since..

Hi there,

Sounds like a bad tube of toothpaste! Not only should you see a doctor, but you should let the company know that their toothpaste is causing problems. I would hate to see more people endure that! It sounds like a reaction to the ingredients in the toothpaste. Your throat must feel icky to since you likely swallowed (a bit) of toothpaste while brushing. I would try sucking on an ice cube to get some water in you and to reduce swelling. But definitely see a doctor or call one, okay?

I decided to ring the doctors a while ago, I feel a little better but still feeling weird! Although swelling has gone down a bit. Anyway, they said give it until tomorrow morning and if it isn't any better then go in and see my GP and they should be able to help.

And I'm definitely going to take it back to the shop, it's not just affected me, my friend also, so it's not just my body that doesn't like it. Just not sure how to go about that?
Should I ask to see a manager or what? :S

Thanks so much for your reply.

it actually sounds more like Thrush, which I just had. It's a yeast infection in the mouth and throat. Try swishing your mouth with warm water and salt. You can also self medicate with a vitamin, I forget the name, but research home remedies for Thrush.

If it was an allergic reaction, your tongue wouldn't be white, just swollen.

If you have white tongue then it clearly means that you are suffering from stomach problem.Because white tongue clearly shows that its a stomach problem and you should get the treatment of stomach.
