Question Is something wrong with me? - June 14th 2012, 02:34 AM

When I went off to college 2 years ago I lost a lot of weight in the first 3 months of being gone. I know we cant post numbers on here so I'll just say it was alot and I hadnt been able to fit into the size clothes I was buying since 7th grade.
Starting last March I started gaining weight again and immediately started watching what I ate, limiting my portions, drinking water instead of pop, skipping fast food, not eating desert except on the rare occasion, basically eating healthier and watching calories. And exercising mostly biking, eliptical, and weights. about an hour a day four to five days a week.
For what ever reason I continued to gain weight and now the clothes I had from before I went to college are getting tight on me. and it is really killing my self esteem.

My gynocologist lectured me about my weight when I went in for my yearly appointment. My weight has gotten so high that apparently I stopped ovulating and I am at a high risk for a bunch of cancers now.
I dont understand why I gained weight though. I dont have a car so I walk everywhere for the most part. I dont eat pasta, or white bread, or drink soda. I dont eat meat, I eat vegitables I work out I live a very healthy life style.

This is really scaring me as I feel like no matter what I do it isn't going to change anything.
Could there be something wrong with my body thats making me gain weight? or is there something I'm doing wrong with my diet?

What does cancer have to with this? I'm confused with how you are scared you are going to get cancer from gaining weight. Also you only get cancer if you smoke not gain weight. as long as you don't smoke you are fine, unless you have a family history of cancer then I would get that checked out by an oncologist.

It could be the fact that you have a slow metabolism. Have you tried like weight watchers or anything like that? Have you spoke to someone who deals with metabolic rates or anything like that?

Actually cancer is caused be a whole range of different things. It can be caused by over weight, smoking, drinking and certain factors or where you live what your exposed to and family members.

What you need to do is go and visit a doctor, tell him (her) what your weight was before you first went off to college and what it was after you lost the weight, then explain how you have gained the weight again and you are still eating healty.

It could be so simple as thyroid problems can make your weight go all over the place.

I agree with India, it could definitely be your thyroid. I suggest going to the doctor and having them run some tests--basic bloodwork like thyroid function, metabolic panel, etc.
